Hello FreeSpace community. I come bearing gifts. :D
Many years ago, I got this as a gift from Interplay. I don't quite remember the reason behind it, but the late webmaster was a really nice guy who was always doing things like this. It's a promotional poster for the first FreeSpace game. I haven't seen other posters like this on the Internet, so I thought it would be a fun project to scan this one for others to enjoy.
*Sorry folks, removed at the request of Interplay*
The poster says:
DESCENT: FREESPACE THE GREAT WAR
THIS TIME YOU'RE NOT GOING DOWN.
YOU'RE GOING OUT.
With the Interplay, Parallax Software, and Volition logos.

Sweet
question, what is the shiv thing being vaped by the Orion in the top right corner????
-
Looks like a Cain/Lilith.
-
While that is an awesome poster, are we legally allowed to copy it and distribute it? It is an Interplay original, after all, and particularly if it contains all the logos...
-
It looks like the ship shooting the beam at the upper left is in fact a Cain/Lilith rather than the Lucifer. I guess that's an example of the ones making the art aren't the ones who know the game inside and out.
-
I put in a request at Interplay's customer service to find out what their stance is on posters like this. Historically, Interplay hasn't really cared that much about this kind of stuff, but you never know. If I find out anything I'll pass it along.

Or that could just saying that Shivan cruisers had beams to begin with. :nervous:

And Manticores!
-
Not Beam turrets, but Blobs with long trails.
-
Is that a Typhon at the right edge? That looks meaty and alien. :)
-
Awesome. This is what the FSPort should look like. :P
-
There appears to be some additional glowpoints on the Orion that I don't think that our current model has.

The original TIFF is over 100 MB big and 6600x8400 in size, so it's very large. I don't have a space on the Internets to put something that big, but if there's someone willing to host it, feel free to contact me.
I would definitely love to have it. Could you try uploading to mediafire? They should allow for a bit above 100 mb uploads. May just take a while.
-
That Fenris-like ship over the Typhoon... Is it a Ticonderoga? o_O
-
It's just a Fenris with an Ursa in front of it.
-
Now that you mention it...
...That poster...
My God, it's full of Ursas!
-
Thanks for the gift and...
:welcome:
-
That Apolo in the bottom left corner looks awesome!
-
It's the same model they used for Ash, you can even see the burn mark on the side. You can also see their high-poly Typhon at the edge.
Man, we really need to bug Volition about those tapes.

Make it a PNG, that should help quite a bit in filesize without losing any quality. And then, like Hades said, upload it to MediaFire. I'm interested in the download link as well :)

Hey folks. Sorry, but I heard back from Interplay. Their response was that they were "not in a position to grant a license at this time and any reproduction and distribution would be a copyright infringement." So I won't be able to give out a higher res version. :(
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The file you posted us is still bamf anyways.
Also, looks like there's a Lilith firing a beam from one of its missile lawnchairs.
-
I hate to necro this, but does anyone have this image saved? I've been looking for it with no luck unfortunately.

Because I knew it would disappear eventually
-
That's ****in awesome.
The slogan looked really stupid for a couple seconds until I figured out the Descent connection.

Was this from a random customer service agent, or someone well placed within Interplay? Because giving out HD versions of it would be free marketing for FS3 (If they decide to make it). Heck, they could offer prints for sale and make good money off us!
