I admit I have been guilty of this. I just don't want people looking at me feet! :nono:
EDIT: I started this in Gaming Discussion for some reason... god damn it!

inb4 moved to Gendisc where this belongs.
Its an amusing video, though

I live in Colorado, the state of winter coats and shorts, where the wool socks and flip-flops are an everyday combination.
(and jeans, when one isn't wearing shorts)
-
I like to do that myself, but just at home, not sure why it's a weird habit though... or why do I feel bad when doing it in public (probably because you get a lot of stares).
EDIT: also LOL at the video.
-
i wear socks in slippers around the house. i guess that's not too weird, but i did always leave my soccer socks on after i took my cleats off and put on slides. makes it a lot more comfortable.
-
If you wear socks with sandals it's like,
HEY, LOOK AT MY FEET.
HAH, JUST KIDDING.
i wanted to see toes :/

Same here. Most of time I where shoes when out in public. I only wear sandals to take out the trash or go somewhere near my apartment.

:wtf:
FILTHY HIPPY!
:p

I never understood who of those stupid fashion designers decided, that wearing socks and sandals is a fashion crime (ever seen what they are creating as new fashion ? :banghead: )
Not sure how it's in america, but in Europe i think it's sort of a running gag to say, that this "problem" is usually a sign for german tourists. And I'm german btw :p I find it very practical. The sandals keeping your feet fresh in the summer, it's more relaxing than closed shoes when it's hot outside, and the socks are protection your feet from stitching grass or insects.
So, yes ! I AM WEARING SOCKS AND SANDALS. WHITE SOCKS, to be more precisive. So run in fear :P

Preach it, brother!
This has got to be one of the wierdest stigmas I've encountered. As you explained - Socks protect your feet from stuff! Why would you NOT wear them? The only scenario I can think of, is if it's so hot that wearing it would be silly. God damn you, society, and your summer-sockophobia! Ok, if you get black sandals and you have white socks, it might stand out, but this whole thing raises a big question that is often ignored...
Why are you looking at people's feet?

What I don't get is how some people are appalled at other people wearing crocs in public. I mean sure I guess they're kind of ugly, but they aren't meant to be nice-looking footwear; they're utilitarian. Sometimes you just want to run to the store or grab the mail or w/e and not care how you look.
-
What's wrong with just wearing normal sandals instead of Crocs? Or hell, runners? I don't have massive beef with them, but I agree, they don't look like the nicest things on Earth. :D
As for socks with sandals, I think they're a bit of a fashion crime. More than that, what's the point? If you're wearing socks, just slip a pair of runners on. If you're barefooted, a pair of thongs or sandals are just as easy.
At the end of the day it's really just one of those social conventions you're way easier abiding by than trying to challenge, in my opinion.
-
I don't even really like sandals in general, except for when I'm walking to the beach. I have completely flat feet, so I always feel much better in something with actual support.
-
If I'm wearing sandals (i.e. because my feet might end up in the Pacific Ocean) then socks are anathema.
Wet socks are a horror and should be destroyed.

Wet socks are a horror and should be destroyed before they destroy us.
Fixed.

I'm not sure they can.
On the other hand, I know they've damn well tried.
-
I don't even know any guys who wear real sandals, let alone socks and sandals. The whole point of thongs and sandals and such is to be open, let your feet breate. Why blow that with socks? Also, while not an issue for sandals, socks and thongs just don't work, unless you've got those socks with the special big toe bit, and who wears them anyway?

If you played soccer all day taking of your cleats and wearing sandals helps circulation in your feet. Works for most other sports too I bet.
