That's pretty good. I wonder if they've actually played Blue Planet or they just picked a random image. :p
-
Is that from BP...? :wtf: I'm somehow unsure. That's a nice skybox, nicer than the BP one...
-
That's a GTD Raynor with a Bellerophon in the background, and it looks like a couple of Hercules. The Raynor does not have nameplates - I suspect it's something they threw together to make that image.
EDIT:
Wait, I think that's a "GTL Anemoi" in the corner. . . and I think there's only one mod where the Raynor and the Anemoi are in the same campaign.
-
Yes. There's a hyperion at the bottom which is next to the Anemoi, at the left side there's a Bell and a Chimera behind it (to the camera). Pretty sure it's BP AoA, or at least based off of it. I don't think they made that shot, though, since the article is supposed to be about retail FS2, I think. They probably lifted the image from somewhere.
-
It's from an early draft of an AoA mission when it was using a BtRL planet as a background.
-
Still looks shiny.
-
Yeah, I recognize that pic from some early BP threads. Nice!
-
What? SupCom 1 was waaay better then SupCom 2.
-
That list places WoW at #2 it is now completely invalid
-
>mfw oblivion is number 3 on that list

That's awesome! Congrats guys! :D well deserved!
-
Actually, considering the number of contributers towards making that pic happen, I'd say the pic is a pretty good community effort.
-
It's disturbing though that they used that pic for a retail description. Sounds like the lister barely even played FS.
-
This happens a lot - Inferno pics get used plenty. Consider it a credit to the community's ability to fill up Google Image Search.
-
Yes, let us flood G's result pages with pretty images and cool campaign praises.

Even by the publishers!

Hah. They didn't blunder with FS2 alone. The picture in the article of Mass Effect 1 is actually from part 2. The graphics in 2 is a bit better and that race in the screenshot (Battarians, if I remember their name correctly) only existed as background story in part 1.
And no they didn't mean the whole series, only part one:
The sequel is excellent too, but I’ll always choose the original because it knew how to engage you.
And I was very surprised to find X-Com 1 and Planescape: Torment in there. I agree totally that they belong there, I'm just surprised they do too.
-
Actually, Batarians were added to ME1 in the Bring Down the Sky DLC if I recall correctly. Since those Batarians aren't wearing Blue Suns mercenary armor, I'll say they're from BDtS.
-
They used a Homeworld 2 shot for Homeworld 1. 'Nuff said.
-
What, this ?

That's HWC u noob.
-
****ing odd, last night they had a homeworld two shot which had the mothership and pulsa corvette in view. They must have recently changed it, though it technically still be wrong.
-
AoE2 screenshot has units that aren't in the base game, SS2 shot seems to be using updated textures and models... I think whoever said they got these shots through google was right on the money.
-
Blue Planet really is the face of FS2.
Storyline-wise, I did enjoy Freespace 1 and 2 quite a bit. When I downloaded and played Age of Aquarius, I was convinced I had found the pinnacle of gameplay storytelling; the end-all, be-all of entertainment. I was more captivated and taken in by BP:AoA than I have been in any movie.
Then I played War in Heaven - which I nearly didn't download in the first place, for fear of it not being as good as AoA (after all, how could it be as good or better than that eighteen-hour-long monument of awesome?). Turns out though, it was even better! When I heard it was not voice acted, I thought it would take away from the quality of the mod - but strangely, It's better without it. The writing of the dialogue was so good, my mind actually filled in the tone and inflections of the words , far more accurately and intricately than any voice actor could.
When is the next installment in the blue planet series coming?
-
We're working on it right now. It's always hard to predict, but our pace of progress seems similar to that on War in Heaven Release 1, so for the moment I'd guess twelve to eighteen more months. Could be faster or slower.
