I bought a knife set. They carded me of course, and said I could have it. I picked up Desert Seige for Ghost Recon, and....
THEY FRIGGIN CARDED ME FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
And said I couldn't buy the damn thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could on and on about anti-NRA ppl. I mean, if they think that guns were made olny for shooting people then they have something seirously worng with then, they are most likely the people to go out with a 10-guage and shoot everyone around them, just becasue you have a gun it dosent mean you'll shoot ppl for no reason for it, Id rather have a gun hidden in my car if someone tryed to pull me out during a red light or if someone was going to try to kill me while I was in my house, or what if you legilly hunted to make some extra money or something

They're not exactly "leftists". Fascism (which this really would be a sample of- overregulation, near-total government control, that sort of thing) is technically rightist, with anarchy (no set laws at all) being the epitome of leftism. The two terms, like a good portion of the parts of the English language I happened to like, have been abducted by morons in recent years, but that doesn't mean you have to dignify their illiteracy with acceptance and usage of the terms. These are the sorts of people who ban and burn books because they're 'offensive', make no mistake- they are anything but liberal and leftist. Particularly the former, in its proper usage.
Recognize the beast for what it is, that is key.

And what exactly are guns FOR if not for killing stuff, then? They make expensive riveters, and that's the end of their practical applications in the non-killing-stuff field. Don't get me wrong, I like carrying around a huge metal stick that makes a really loud noise, jumps about, and makes thing several hundred yards away fly apart quite a lot, possibly more than most, but you have to recognise that the whole point of a gun is to kill things with it. It's not just a fancy, rather heavy and dangerous toy, it's a weapon. For killing people. Nothing else. I have reasons for prefering to possess weapons myself (such as eventual armed revolt), but you can't go living under the illusion that guns are perfectly innocent devices that are not there expressly TO do all sorts of illegal ****. I am under no illusions that, say, my machete is much other than a maiming implement (out here, at least. We don't get much underbrush in farm country). That doesn't mean that it needs to be confiscated (yeah, just try to take it from me. Go ahead. I just trimmed the sheath so I can get it out faster), but I have no reasonable expectation that anyone would listen to me if I denied that the only thing I could do with it other than play with it is hack at things. A gun is even more specialized- it's useless should you ever need to slaughter a hog (well, you never know...), and you can't go cut down bushes with it. Just shoot stuff. Propel tiny little lead slugs into things, which makes most types of animals die.

edit: Thorn, I really don't care if people have weapons or not. But when a kid find the weapon in his father's desk, and accidentally kill a his little brother, who do you blame? the kid? don't think so. guns are dangerous, they're weapons.

Exactly. Is it the gun's fault little Timmy died? No. Would he have died if the gun wasn't there? Of course he wouldn't have, but is the gun to blame? Any father who places a firearm in the reach of a small child should hang himself, that's simply bad parenting.

Ooh, touchy NRA issue.
CodeDog, I'm assuming that you're under 21 if they said you couldn't purchase it. 18 is the legal age to get anything bigger than a swiss army knife (And even then if a cop asks you if you have a weapon you have to tell him about it, it has a 3" blade. Can't carry one onto a plane either.)
But as for Guns and killing people.
I am highly against the stance that California is taking as far as gun control.
Taking weapons out of the hands of innocent people and making them illegal is complete bull*moo*.
Because guns can always be found if you know who to go talk to, but the government doesn't care if someone breaks into your house while you're asleep and can't defend yourself. Just ask anyone who's ever been convicted of a felony. They're not allowed to own any 'Weapon'. Not even a baseball bat.
Did you know that guns are almost 100% illegal in Australia?
If you're not a cop, you have no legal reason to own any firearm.
What's even worse, up till a year ago (maybe still today) the law there has no definition of a Home Invasion. (When someone armed breaks into your home.)

come on. If the kid wants to get the weapon, he will, one way or another. While dad is sleeping, or any other way, a key can always be found. You have no idea what a kid can do to impress his lil sis or his friends, it seems. There's no more twisted mind than one of a 10 year old child.
Oh, and on another note: what is the gun for? self defense? what's the use if it's locked?
As I said, i don't care if people have a gun or not ( as long as they don't shoot at me :p ), but I kindda miss the logic there. A good old baseball batt is much better, IMHO. First, you don't need to lock it, your kids won't get killed with that. Second, you won't hesitate before using it ( don't tell me if you have a gun and someone slips in your house, you will fire at sight :rolleye: ). Third, you won't get in jail coz you killed someone who broke into your house ( kindda unfair no? ). fourth, it's more fun... her... forget that one
oh, and fifth: it's cheaper :p

BTW, where I live ppl do a lot of hunting of all kinds so guns are not useless.
And Venom you won't go to jail if they are in your house with a weapon, or if it is at night they can be in your yard with a weapon.

I have a relative who was a former prosecutor. He remembers a lot of murder cases, and you know how many had guns for defence? A lot. How many succesfully defended themselves? None that he remembers.
Conclusion: NRA is evil, but if I had to choose them between them and the soccers moms, I'd pick the NRA.

Ah, and about guns: criminals will always have access to guns. It's stupid to forbit the civilian access to them too - you're basically saying that any and all honest citizens must be at the complete mercy of any criminal with a gun. And all of them have guns.

NRA Rulz! Its whats keeps this a free country. Think about it, we are one of the few countries left in the world where its civilians can keep and bear arms. If someone were to try and invade they would be dealing with more than just our military. Remember, Guns dont kill people, people kill people, so be responsible :D

the right to bear arms has nothing to do with being a free country. If everyone gave his/her firearm the country would be just as free.
The NRA is dangerous, because it's a huge and powerful lobby-group.
Where I live (Belgium) guns are illegal and rightly so. However, given to proper procedures and papers you can get one. Usually a small sidearm. That's because you don't need more. No civilian has any use (except in the case of hunting maybe) for an entire arsenal of weapons, or military grade weapons, for anything else than purposes which can't stand day-light.
Or are the rumors that some parts of the US have become militia country false? Because from what we hear those militias are nothing better than some gang controlled by a warlord.
Your government allows shadow-armies to operate on your territory without, apparently, having good enough legal power to smite them. Which shows that people in general aren't responsible enough to have guns in the first place.

I do agree with part of that. People individually don't need assault rifles. What are you going to hunt? A whole herd of buffalo?
Granted if someone wielding a 9mm pistol broke into my place, and I confronted him with an M-16A1 assault rifle. I don't think he'd ever get the smell out of his pants.
Hunting rifles, pump action shotguns, pistols, those are one thing. There's no reason not to let people have them.
But things like ak-47's, M-16's, scorpions, uzi's... There isn't any reason to need those things.
And if America DID get invaded (I wanna know how they hell "THEY" made it across the ocean or canada without us noticing first and turning their ranks into confetti.) The national guard would issue appropriate weapons to the people and instruct them on how to use them. (Provided the people weren't crazy or something.)
Why? They don't stockpile those things without a good reason.
Not to mention any invading force would have to contend with all the cops too. (Who are in an never-ending war to keep up with the criminals in terms of firepower.)
What are cops using these days? .45's? It's been awhile since I've used one, but still.

People as a whole aren't capable with doing much. People as a whole are stupid.
A PERSON, now that's a different matter.
Look at all the soccer games where there's riots and stuff. Hell, I still have clippings somewhere where a team who didn't win the internationals didn't go back home because they feared what the people would do to them!

And whats with this whole "guns don't kill people, people do" thing? Well, I could just as well say "Guns don't kill people, bullets do!" And if people are really worried about people coming into their homes, why don't have a baseball bat? Or a better security system? And think about it this way, what happens if the burglar find you're gun? Or what if you shoot the person who came in to rob you? You might call it self defence maybe, but trust me, it won't be any good, cause you'll be stuck with the thought that you've actually killed someone. Trust me, people do not need guns, for any bloody purpose. Think of it logically, what is the true purpose of a gun? (I'm not talking about hunting rifles, cause they have a purpose, although I don't see why people need to have to urge to go out and kill something like a deer, elk, or moose. Maybe the thought of killing exites them... The only place I would think rifles should be allowed would be up north where there are bear hazards, and theres no other way to stop an invading bear than to pop one in the skull. )
If you think about it, there is no real purpose in owning a gun exceot for maybe having some sort of machismo ego problem ,where you think owning a gun makes you feel that much cooler. Like my friend. He owns a gun, a glock 17. I ask him "Why'd you buy a gun?" he said "Cause I want one. Anyway, I'll use it in a shooting club." Ok, whoopee. So he goes and spends alot of money on a piece of metal that he can only use in a shooting gallery? In which, by the way, had a horrible shooting spree 3 years back when a woman decided to go in there a kill couple of people. Anyway, he's stopped going there now, and his lovely gun is collecting dust on his shelf. A potential hazard for god knows whom. I know, that you have to be responsible whne owning a gun, but for christ sakes, people are people. We always screw up every now and then.
So all in all, guns are pointless, useless and dangerous. It gives you a false sence of security and thats all.
On another note, this whole thing about blaming video games and movies for teenage violence in the States is ludicrous. I'm pritty sure everyone agrees "most" of those school shootouts and teeange violece can be led back to bad upbringing. Looking at the laws from another country, its quite funny how the law system in the US considers it's people so stupid. Do they really think that if you're under the age of 18 or 21, that when you buy a game and play it, that you'll be totaly propelled into thoughtless acts of violence? Oh well, I'm a realist, and I know that there'll always be violence in the world, people will always blame it on something. However guns have contributed to more deaths than ANY other forms of death in history. "Guns don't kill people, people WITH guns kill people."
BTW, I'm having a dreadfull hangover, so that probably why I'm in a bad mood...
