I'm not sure if this is something that's FreeSpace's fault or if it's something else, but I thought I might as well find out.
Basically, whenever I run FS2, the brightness of FS2 is fine, but everything else on screen (I have two monitors, only one of which I use to run FS2) becomes much, much brighter. It's almost as if FS2 has to crank up the overall brightness of my system in order to display correctly. Now, whenever I exit FS2 brightness returns to normal, so that's fine. But if for example I get an assert error or something and FS2 crashes, then the brightness remains abnormally high on everything until I restart the computer.
Like I said, I'm not sure if this is specific to FreeSpace. Just wondering if anyone else here has encountered the problem and if there's anything that can be done about it.

Does ticking "Disable Setting of Gama" do anything for you in the Launcher? (or whatever it's called)

It does indeed. Had to crank up the brightness setting in FS2 itself, but now it leaves the rest of my computer alone. Thanks, Zacam.
