Fascinating stuff ;)

Ah, a microscope that is able to image by using evanescent waves. Very small stuff included then - but it's good they have finally got it to work. This work is actually quite remarkable on the Optical Design point of view. I expect a wealth of applications to open up in near future - this probably means I too need to study that stuff in a couple of years.
Also, congratulations for BBC for getting it quite close to factually correct and still understandable.

Oh wow, this is pretty awesome.

50 nm? So long electron microscope for most biological applications.

I was just about to post about this, amazing stuff

I have no idea how this evanescent wave gathering works, but the results are awesome.
"It's quite a nice phenomenon that they've absolutely exploited."
That sounds so terrible.
