Title: [ANNOUNCEMENT] An Unholy Alliance
Post by: Lucika on March 08, 2011, 09:42:36 am
Ladies and gentlemen... allow me to present
An Unholy Alliance

On 2335 January 7th, the GTA loses contact with Riviera Station in Ross 128, and the Great War officially begins. On the 23rd, the PVE and the GTA representatives meet to sign the treaty that would end the 14-Year War... however, the Terrans have something unbelievably sinister in store. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyMxQnLrIAA)

This FreeSpace Open campaign will be telling the story of betrayal, the story of a Terran-Shivan alliance, the story of a new Great War, a story of the GTD Amadeus that survived the Shivan bombing...

...but I need help to create it.

The thing is, I've written the whole outline, I have the basic setting for all 20 missions of the campaign. However, I am positively sure that this is something that I cannot undertake alone. Especially not when Syrk is prioritized until the end of April (concerning my part, I have 3 more missions to finish and a bit of polishing to do as things currently stand). Also I haven't decided yet if this is going to be 100% pure FSPort with everyone using SSLs or featuring a bit of tabling. If the latter, I'll need some tabling help as well (I definitely don't want to use mods though). All in all, if you are interested in the campaign idea, please contact me. I'd really appreciate some nice little Terran-Shivan allied FREDding. :)

(special thanks to IceyJones for his awesome work with the Fall of Vasuda Prime cutscene!)

Wasn't there already a mod with that exact name?

It lacks an "an". :P Also, I've only learned about its existence after I outlined the detailed concept.

EDIT: Add to that that it is set in the FS2 time period.

Already is a campaign named as "unholy Alliance"  it´s a alliance between a group of pro terran shivans and the terran part of GTVA.

If the GTA allied with the Shivans, wouldn't that make the Hammer of Light allies of the GTA too?
Or is the alliance hell-bent on the Vasudan's total annihilation?

Yes, the HoL will join the Terrans as well, albeit their importance and quantity is a lot smaller, after all, Terrans are Terrans and as such, not really favourited by Vasudans - not even when they team up with the Destroyers, either.

So, they are present, they do join the Terran-Shivan alliance but they aren't a major force like in FS1.

Funny how that there was a mod with the same name (minus the an) and a similar premise.
That said, this sounds like a thorough zod-thrashing campaign. And who doesn't like zod-thrashing?

I find it disturbing that everything and its mom has SSLBeams though (seriously, that's not cool)

Yep, but that is set in FS2. :)

The Zods. So much so that they are going to come up with surprisingly potent methods to stop the ugly duo set up against them. :headz:

Just because of Rool of Cule Rule of Cool. Only in the trailer. ;)

Too much racism in that board. You should make that campaign from the Zod point of view, would be much more interesting IMHO.

Mmm yes, and you get to fly a-n00b-is's without shields or afterburners against Shivans, and Terrans with Kaysers.
Real men don't need shields or afterburners.

Though I will admit I'm not a real man. I like my shields, reverse afterburners, glide, autoaim, and hull auto-repair.

Anubis are l33t. They have epic turn rate. I'd beat QD on a turning dogfight anyday with that ship if it had the burners to evade the first frontal salvo :p

Too bad it doesn't, and thus is forever doomed to eat the first frontal salvo and die every time D:

I played the original Unholy Alliance, and, whilst I don't like to knock campaigns in general, if you could re-do the idea with more story and less "Raaaaarghh! Big Ships'n'Beemz!', it could be quite interestimg.

The hard part is not revealing any of the Shivans' story, they don't make the worlds best protagonists ;)

To stick on topic, note who fires beams and who doesn't...

The hard part is not revealing any of the Shivans' story, they don't make the worlds best protagonists ;)

Just because you make an alliance with somebody, it doesn't mean that you get to know anything about their goals :P

Well, I always felt the original campaign was simply an attempt to answer questions like "Demon vs Ravana, who would win?" etc.

Personally, I think situations where the Shivans are allied with HoL or Command or any other group might work, but if they are non-hostile to the player, it would get complex, because the player needs motivation. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, and if done right it could be great fun, but it's not the easiest storyline to deal with unless there's a very specific antagonist, someone designing a weapon that can destroy Subspace itself or the like, and even then, the Shivans would still need those motivations explained from a human perspective.

Now, to make it clear, I'm certainly not saying it wouldn't work, and I'm interested to see what you come up with, but I suppose my point is, I don't mind the name being similar, but try not to make the campaign into a Shivan battle-fest.

It might even be interesting to have the Shivans turn up and help you on occasion, and leave the player entirely in the dark for most of the campaign as to why, you could write some nasty stings in the tale using that technique, are we "doing it right" or are the Shivans simply helping us to hang ourselves? ;)

Waaaaa, I wish to answer that with details but I don't want to spoil everything. :D All I can say is: rest assured, no beam-fest. I've already shown the layout to 4-5 members of Syrk, I am not going into anything totally blind.

Personally, I think situations where the Shivans are allied with... Command...

That would be awesome. Secret dealings with the Shivans, weirdness occurring all over the place. Mmmm, yes please.

Interesting yes....but the GTA never could make contact with the shivans at all? ETACK was the closest thing to Terran communication to the Shivans right?

The answer to that is more obvious than you might think.

I guess it's called "alternate storyline" right?
The GTI did research the Shivans, even before the official "first contact". It's not impossible that they found a way to communicate with the Shivans, but ithe knowledge was lost in the Hades rebellion. And Bosch managed to piece together the ETAK project from the bits and pieces that survived.
