Title: vasudan style fighter
Post by: Venicius on March 10, 2011, 02:54:35 pm
I made this from one cube and it morphed into something somewhat Vasudan/Shivan looking.  It's supposed to be an assault fighter.

Apply smoothing.
Aside from that, nice fighter.

I personally think the design is kinda boring, but it is well made regardless.

Personally, I do agree with Asteroth. Next, it looks like you've tried your hands at using subdivisions. I will state that you did better than many other people I've seen, but the model is still pretty sloppy in some areas. Furthermore, I assume you've got an unnecessarily large polycount on that model because of the subdivisions.

To repeat what I've said to others, there's nothing wrong with subdivisions, but like any tool, they have to be used responsibly. In that sense, I think you've got a bit further to go in your modeing skills before you can do that. I'll note that I've still not reached the point of using them myself in a truly effective manner.

Now with smoothing and edge split:

Try turning the model over. Making the bottom the top. It already looks like you've got a cockpit going, and it looks pretty good.

Ooo, I like that idea, that would make it look kinda cool. Also, the recessions on the hull may be too shallow to notice in-game.

I agree.  Turn it end-over-end.  Go with the shoulder-mounted forward-swept wing design.
