0-60 in 3.8 seconds.

This car has just over 556HP at the crank/flywheel, but i've got a tuner coming down to install an aftermarket cam, lifters, smaller lower supercharger pulley, and then dyno tune.

He's saying i'll be at 600RWHP and over 650ft lbs torque at the wheels.

:)

^^^ that means i'll be able to do 60-120 in around 3 seconds or so

0-120 in under 7 seconds... not bad.

Not much of a car buff, but it certainly looks as beefy as it performs :)

So how long until another jealous co-worker comes around and tells you're dead? We might even believe it this time.

I can't believe how much you're spending on cars. Seriously.

Well, for some people it's games, for others it's computers, for some it's Warhammer miniatures, for others it's cars.

Kudos to Stealth for having the money to collect cars, right now I don't even have the money to collect warhammer miniatures :(

You say that like anything GW makes is inexpensive.  Rumor has it that the new Grey Knights are $30 for five plastic models.

Actually, I'm saying it like I'm broke ;) But yeah, GW is getting way too pricey anyway :)

Awesome car Stealth! You didn't go for the CTS-V Coupe instead? I love the lines on the new coupe although I can see how it's less practical. If I had the money and the interest I'd probably go sedan too.

I did test drive the CTS-V coupe, but there is a LOT less headroom, and being that i'm 6'3", there was no way i could fit.

And yeah i opted for the automatic vs the manual.  With 600RWHP, there's no need to have a manual shifter i don't think...so you can use both hands keeping the car on the road :)

Gas mileage?

Post by: Nuclear1 on March 15, 2011, 09:29:49 pm
Gas mileage?

Supposed to be 14/19...automatic transmission will lower that slightly, but it'll stay around there.

Post by: Stealth on March 16, 2011, 09:49:43 am
gas mileage is 12/18 actually.

With a tune i expect to get around 15/28 though

Wow, that's a big jump in highway efficiency.  Almost approaches my little Escort, albeit with like four times the HP. :p

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the tuning Stealth is referring to is a tune-up to his Electronic Control Unit which is responsible for fuel management, among other things.  Probably some modifications to the transmission as well, so that sharp highway MPG increase isn't unusual.

Why don't they sell it like that?  :wtf:

Can't really say I like the interior, but the outside looks nice. But is it really the fastest and best handling sedan? I can think of quite a few German cars that'd provide a challenge.  :drevil: It does probably have top speed though, since most BMWs, etc these days are limited to 155 mph.

Tuning is an expensive process, and it likely would add several thousand dollars to the price tag if they did it with each automobile.  The CTS-V Sedan already costs $63K.

Also, there are lots of ways you can reprogram an ECU (for more power, better fuel economy, etc.).  Allowing the owner to make that choice aftermarket on a base engine is cheaper, easier, and less time-consuming than if the tuner had to rework an advanced preset program.

In fact, Stealth, I might be giving my Ram a tune in the next few months, so let us know how it goes. :)

Although I'm sure there is room to argue the CTS-V is either better than or slightly behind the best of the German sport sedans. Depends on the test, the tester and probably the phase of the moon :) Seriously it is well regarded as one of the best sports sedans available on the planet, period. Which is pretty impressive considering how far down Cadillac had fallen several years ago.

Wait, you went with the automatic?  But sticks are just so much more fun!  :P
Sweet car nonetheless.

Top Gun has it right - emissions is the reason they don't come with this tune.  There are people out there gaining 60HP, 75 ft lbs torque, and increasing gas mileage by 15% in the process... it's a win/win :)

You can read accounts of BMW drivers who were there testing the M5s, and took a CTS-V around the track, and admitted it was a superior car.  There's no doubt it outperforms (read: acceleration, slalom, braking, handling) the Mercedes E63 AMG, the BMW M5, and the rest of the 4 door audis, chargers, etc.  However, there is one car that's given the V a run for its money - that's the Porsche Panamera.  The only 4 door car to beat the Nurburgring time the CTS-V set.  However it can also be argued that Porsche spent several days setting their record, whereas the world record the CTS-V set was done on its first attempt - and the Panamera beat the V only by 2 or 3 seconds.  Still, the Panamera, while with a $40,000 price tag difference to the CTS-v, is still a great car.

Yeah went with an automatic, because with this much power, there's not even a reason to have a manual gearbox :p  still, it's got a pretty impressive 'manual' mode

Yeah with the Recaro seats, navigation, ultraview sunroof, etc. my car had a price tag of $68,900.  Plus tax, title, and license of course.

The car sounds MEAN with thish exhaust.  had a friend do a 'drive-by' while i stood on the side of the road, and it's the only car i've ever owend that sounds like a straight up race car.  wish there was a way to show you guys how the exhaust sounds :(

I hate noise pollution.
Title: Re: Say hello to my new car
Post by: Stealth on March 21, 2011, 11:11:36 pm
No, waaaaay better than those.  Those are bolt-on exhausts.  my exhaust is custom made.  I would put it on youtube, but you can't really get that across in a youtube video :/  i'll try though :)

And in every crowd there's always the guy that has a problem with something.  If a car's too fast, then it's a hazard.  If it's engine is too big, then it's destroying the environment.  If the exhaust is too loud, it's noise pollution lol.

But don't worry, in neighborhoods, i keep the RPMs low, so the noise stays low.

Also, those videos are the generation I CTS-Vs... the 5.7L (and sometimes 6.0L) engines, naturally aspirated.  different everything.  Mine is the supercharged LSA 6.2L

I've been to CTS-V meets across texas for the last several years when i had my old CTS-V, and i've heard them all... none of them touch this =)

Seems the aftemarket headers make a big difference to the sound. I'm inclned to agree with the youtube comments; a ballsout exhaust seems out of charicter with the rest of the car.
