Yeah so I have this new laptop and I've been wondering for a while why I've been having trouble reading from it sometimes, and I now realise it's because it's really shiny and reflects everything. is there a way to fix this without scratching up the screen with sandpaper?

*shrugs* Congratulations for buying a laptop with glassy panel. Next time, make sure it has matte panel. I hate glassy panels. I don't know but there might be anti-reflection plastic sheets that cover the display to counter those reflections. Where to find these things, don't know.

There certainly are anti-glare screen protectors available online. Try Amazon and e-Bay:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_0_17?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=laptop+anti+glare&x=0&y=0&sprefix=laptop+anti+glare
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=laptop+anti+glare&_sacat=See-All-Categories
You should be able to find one for yours if you know the exact dimensions of your screen and/or search by model number.

Is that a normal towel? If not, can I buy these on amazon or ebay?

I feel like a Snuggie could do this job

You should experiment with various blanketing items and make a plot of item cost vs. optical absorptivity. Maybe make a third axis for comfort. Snuggies would do great there. :3

Use some of you mother's hosiery (i.e. put a pair of tights/stockings over the screen)
