Are there any bonus points for destroying ALL GEF forces in this mission? I can get up to the gunship they bring in... but thats about it.
What about saving the gate?
And why were there UEF fighters among the ranks in the last wave? Unless they were SOC?
-
There are no bonus points whatsoever; the gauntlet in question is more for fun than anything else.
-
Aside from normal score for destroyed targets, that is.

Gefs are secretly receiving supplies from the GTVA on one hand, and the UEF on the other hand, each one trying to use the Gefs to weaken the other. We only see the Gefs attacking the UEF aside from the Zod logistic ship, but Gefs do attack both sides frequently. So either the UEF crafts come from there, or those are stolen/salvaged fighters grabbed wherever they could. That shouldn't come as a surprised since the Gefs have been raiding the UEF for years.
(Also, SOC is Tev. I don't think they would deploy UEF crafts in this situation, if they even managed to capture some.)

Hmm, didn't know that... :P

I never finished that gauntlet, it's harder than my UEF gauntlet.

Wouldn't they though? Think about it... an SOC operation that is meant to solidify the GTVA by highlighting the UEF as terrorist supporters in the eyes of the Vasudans. Its dirty, and the presence of GTVA Stealth Fighters earlier in the mission pushes it in that direction a tad further. SOC scored an Elder and solidified the Alliance. Thats a service medallion right there.

What I mean is, there is no use to deploy the few captured UEF fighters you might have to kill other UEF fighters where a sweep with standard Tev fighters would be just as good. An Allied destroyer has been under attack in this area, it is totally legitimate to send Tev fighters to secure the area. The SOC doesn't have to cover itself anymore at that point.
IMHO, the UEF fighters you fight at that moment are Gefs ones, not SOC.

Yes.
-
Ah, so i'm just overestimating the GTVA then?
-
Or underestimating the Gefs. The Tevs don't need to get personally involved if they can have the Gefs do the dirty work for em.
-

Uh, I don't think so. Why would the Tevs - who carefully concealed their involvement in this operation - need to do anything more than what they did?
-
I guess overestimate is too heavy a word or something, cause it seems like such a tiny difference. Oh well, perhaps I expect too much. Meh, doesn't matter anywho.

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention that they were using UX Accelerator cannons when they assaulted the gate in the next to last wave. THAT is what threw me for a loop far more than just the presence of those fighters.

WiH players always underestimate the Gefs because what we see ingame are always small fighter groups with little equipment, doing small-scale strikes on vulnerable targets. Yet they always forget that very mission, that definitely shows what the Gefs are capable of when they are really committed to something. Attacking and being able to disable a warship of the scale of a modern, retrofitted Hattie isn't a small feat.
When people say the UEF has never seen combat, and that all 3rd fleet did before AoA was small policing actions against ridiculously underarmed terrorists, they should reconsider their position in light of this.
