Hey guys,
Just wondering how the community would react to the idea of machinima conducted using FSO. I'm very tentatively considering the idea, as I realized while developing a campaign that I was really trying to tell a much more "cinematic" story than would appeal to most players while actually playing the campaign. So I thought that the story would be better told using machinima, and am wondering how people would react to this idea.
The poll responses themselves are fairly simple, I'd rather people post reasons for their votes in the thread than trying to lump the reasons into the poll.

I wouldn't look forward to FREDing it myself, but it sounds like it could be fun.
-
Go for it, definitely. I've always wondered why there wasn't any machinima for FS, especially now that we have more experience on cutscenes.
-
Do eeet
-
Yep, I want it. I love the ingame cutscenes some campaigns use.
-
Hell yeah. The FS cutscene engine is simple yet robust- the FSO trailer and some BP cutscenes were leet.
-
I'm not familiar with the term. From the comments though it sounds like a kind of movie or series, but composed of pure cutscene "missions" without any playing? Like watching a DVD, but starting it in FS2?
-
No, like a film made using a game engine, that you watch on youtube or whatever like any other video. Look at Red Vs Blue, which is one of the most famous example.

Vassago's dirge first mission cutscene and the JAD 2.22 trailer cutscene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv__YTyLGiI) imho blow those examples out of the water.

You should try it. It will be a welcome addition to the community.

Glad to hear there's a positive response. I'm currently drafting up some scripts and other documents. I will be applying for project hosting here on HLP once I have a few things sorted out. Unless things go awry with my RL, you'll hear more on this in days to come.

I fixed that, since that's exactly what I said :P though I have to grant you, you formulated it much better.
Thanks anyway.
And I'm all for it too, just wanted to be sure I had the right idea before voting.

No, you were going about something that would require FS2 to watch ingame. Machinima are real videos, which means that you can add as many out-game aftereffects as you want. That's something totally different.
-
Maybe in terms of what you need to watch them, but for the discussion, wether they should be made or not, it doesn't matter.
-
It would be great to see. Would you be using a method similar to Clear Skies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As8cmHb-aKU)? It is EVE based, using Gary's Mod for the interior shots and characters (Footage was blue-screened in for windows and screens etc). FS is not very well suited to character scenes.
-
Indeed, FS is slightly limiting in that regard, but I believe with proper scripts I can work around that. The setting and premise give some leeway to the characters spending a lot of their time in fighters. I've applied for project hosting here, so once that gets approved I will release more information about where I'm planning to go with the whole thing.

would be nice to see scenes like Bosh's monologue and other bridge dialogues, to help the story along. Could that be done?
