Title: The Pirates of Yore hosting request
Post by: CommanderDJ on March 25, 2011, 08:55:37 am
My sincerest apologies for wasting everyone's time. I'm going to have to cancel this request.

Hey guys,
Following the results of this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=75220.msg1489250#msg1489250), I would like to apply for project hosting of The Pirates of Yore Machinima Project.

Some basic info:
The Pirates of Yore was originally designed to be a playable campaign. The demo was indeed released (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72989.0), but further along in development I realised that my primary goal with the campaign had been to tell a story, but since it was a campaign, I started caring more about gameplay rather than story. More recently, I also realised that the story I had to tell would be better told as a machinima, and since it’s something that hasn’t been attempted before using FSO, I thought I’d give it a shot. We intend to create and release five episodes initially, gauge community reaction and make appropriate changes, then proceed to finish off the season (which may be anything from 14-18 episodes in total). After the first season release, we will thoroughly investigate whether more seasons are in demand before deciding whether or not to continue.

I do have a detailed design document with a basic plot outline, character info, and a development plan among other things, which I am willing to send to whoever requires proof of internal project organization, but which I obviously cannot release publicly. So let me know who to PM with the document. If you need further proof, I also have 6 or 7 missions originally designed for the campaign version which I can base episode scripts off of.

If I am granted hosting, TPOY would like:
Internal and public forums
An SVN repository would be really ideal, but if that's not possible then I'll make do with FTP space.
EDIT: Oh and a website since that's required.

I would like this to be our badge:

For now, just grant member access to me. Once I've got things I need up on the internal forum I'll put out the hiring calls.

Thanks in advance. If any additional info is needed, I will happily provide it.

:bump:

Even if this can't get set up yet, would be good to get it approved (or not as the case may be). Pretty please?

Might I suggest moving this to the Hosted Support board?

Who else is on your team?

Given such a large change of focus I think I'd like to see some actual signs of the machinima before I'd want to approve this.

Might I suggest moving this to the Hosted Support board?

Given that he wouldn't be able to see it then, probably not a good idea. :p

As of now, no one. I will be putting out a hiring call shortly. I can send you the design document if you want to see what positions I'll be looking for and how I'm planning to tackle the project. I can also send you the script for the first episode or two.

Also, I think you meant to quote Scotty, not me.

EDIT: Nuclear1 is now on the team.

Odd. I really shouldn't post until I'm fully awake. :p
