When I switched to the campaign (the one that came with the launcher) and ran the game it said it had detected several errors. Normally I would just edit the mod.ini file to change "mediavps" to "mediavps 3.6.12" or whatever, but this time the mod.ini file was different and I couldn't fine where to edit it.
-
Does sync even need a mod.ini? I thought it was a campaign using only stock Freespace 2 (or media VP) content and thus would be safe to be dumped into the mission folder (or root folder if it's wrapped up in a VP).
If you want to run it from it's own folder, the mod.ini should contain the following two lines though:
primarylist = ;
secondarylist = mediavps;
Or maybe
secondarylist = mediavps_3612;
But that might cause problems, since I didn't hear of anyone adapting Sync to the new MVPs.

[multimod]
secondarylist = mediavps_3612;
This is what you need. Anything else in the mod.ini is optional. Won't guarantee that Sync works with the 3.6.12 MediaVPs, but if it does, a mod.ini for Sync containing that text will make FSO use the MediaVPs with Sync.

Nononono, don't say things like this out loud. EACH MOD GOES INTO ITS OWN SUBFOLDER UNDER \freespace2\ . IF you know what you're doing AND IF you know what a mod contains, you can experiment on your own, but please don't tell other people to do something that is generally considered bad.
-
Yes, but Sync is no mod. It is a campaign, is it not? No new ships, no table fiddling, just the plain mission files and some great FREDding.
Or am I mixing it up with something here?
-
IIRC Sync has just one custom ship, the big Vasudan superdestroyer that you only see once for teh lulz.
-
Sync has a custom ship and .tbms to match. Keep it in its own mod folder.
-
Okay, in that case I appoligize. It's so long I played it I forgot about the biggie (Hek-Ta?).
-
I tried modifying the ini file in all of the ways you guys suggested, but I still get the error (only difference is that when I add that multimod thing before the mediavps 3612 it shows a screen that has a logo for mediavps before the intro cutscene starts)
-
Log pls?
-
I can't give you the log file because it hasn't actually crashed yet. I've played the first two missions with no problem even though I got the initial warning dialogue box upon startup saying that there were 31 errors. When I get around to playing more of it I'll make note of when it crashes then get the file for you guys.
-
Umm. Please generate a log regardless. Because those 31 errors? They shouldn't be there, and reading the log will show us what exactly is going wrong.
-
I thought it wasn't possible to generate a log unless the game actually crashed
-
Whenever you run a debug build, the log is being generated. The whole point of debug builds is to generate logs.
-
Okay here is the log

Looks like Sync's ships.tbl is somewhat wrong.

Please update your GPU driver.
How do I do that?
Looks like Sync's ships.tbl is somewhat wrong.
How do I fix it?
-
To update your Graphics card driver, go to amd.com, and get the latest catalyst drivers for your card.
As for ships.tbl, you don't actually need to fix it. It's more Ransom's responsibility, and those warnings are thankfully nothing serious.
-
So this will be fixed in the next version of the launcher?
-
No. To fix these issues, sync's ships.tbl has to be fixed. Which isn't our responsibility. All you should do is click through the warnings.
-
Okay, I finally encountered an error. In the mission "Breathe", I found myself in an Erinyes with dual Kaysers, Trebuchets, and Tornadoes!
This error wasn't exactly unwelcome, though ;7

Red Alert bug. That bug is general, dates from retail and has nothing to do with Sync in particular.
