On a popular website I go to, Bungie.net, someone created a third party script for Greasemonkey. It works for Firefox and Google Chrome. It lets people who use the script have custom profile information that isn't supposed to be on the site, but appears for the user, as well as others who use the script. It lets the users have their own custom avatars that can be pretty much anything as well as custom usernames, custom text, and more. Someone should make a script like that for here, it's completely off-site and so there's nothing the moderators could do about it. So, who wants to make a script so we can have our own custom coups here?

:wtf:
Why would you want to mess up one of the prettiest sites on the web with ugly avatars?

Are you calling Jesus ugly?

One of the reasons a lot of us like this site is because of the lack of avatars and image sigs. They just clutter up the page.
So, yeah, not interested.
-
As long as it's purely greasemonkey, with everything stored externally, and completely invisible unless you install the script and opt in...
Go for it, I don't care. I sure won't be signing up.
-
Yeah, if it's just some greasemonkey business, noone's stopping you.
Also, yes, I do call Jesus ugly. Same goes for all the other Avatars on display there.
-
+1 for Sushi's position. Nobody can stop you messing around with greasemonkey, but I doubt you'll get much uptake from the regulars.
-
Yep, that's my opinion of the idea too.
Although anyone publicly complaining about someone's avatar, sig or any other meta-feature gets banned. :p

Typhon's are so 1998 :p

Well, hey, admins shouldn't get avatars when regular users can't since it has no affect on their power.

Sarcasm doesn't carry well over text, in case you couldn't tell by the above example in my post...

Honestly, if someone makes this script and people use it, I don't care... but why for the love of the Great Old Ones would you mess up a perfectly simplistic forum design? The design of a single post is straightforward, simplistic, not messy, and consistent with other posts.
I visit forums that allow avatars and sigs. I invariably turn them off. Why? Because frankly, they're ugly in and of themselves. I know all the crap people can spew about expressing individuality, but this simply results in inconsistent color schemes, inconsistent image sizes, and inconsistent styles of picture, which looks like mullticolored crap even when the sigs and avatars by themselves look great. Look at the forum pic you posted again- each post is maybe half a line, but there are garish sigs and avatars (and background colors for posts, who in the name of Admiral Chiwetel Steele thought of that) which do nothing but distract from the content of the post.
At HLP at least- I can't say this for many other forums- your post is about its content, not what it looks like. To say otherwise just seems ridiculous and counterproductive. You can have it if you want, but you're seriously degrading your experience.
Oh and yes your Jesus avatar is in fact ugly, just sayin'
-
To be fair, on such a forum as is pictured you would want rather desperately to distract from the content of your posts, 'cuz the level of discourse there ain't doing you any favors.
-
Well, it's Bungie... no surprise there... :P
-
owww.. I wanted slowpoke as an avatar :(
Anyway... I do believe it's best that HLP stays clear of avatars.

Well, if this people that don't want to look at your avatars don't need to see this stuff unless they choose to install firefox and get the script, knock yourself out; no one's stopping you and likely no one will care.
