Holy Stompy Mechs Where Did This Come From?! (http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/03/31/hawken-cockpit-view-gameplay)
-
Looks fun!, me want.
-
I've got to say that at the end of the day, this just looks like another run-around-and-shoot-'em-up game. It doesn't glean much interest from me.
Something more like Steel Battalion might be better to my liking, but with a further realistic twist. Maybe an ArmA mod could do that...
-
I've been following this one for a while, and I'm really interested. Theres a few more videos floating around, and I know Mektek has huge interest in this.
I'm still more interested in the new Steel Battalion though....

-
It looks an awful lot like Front Mission Evolved. And having played that (it sucked) after liking it from trailers, I can't seem to muster any excitement this time around. Could turn out to be the game that one should have been though.

Note the adjective "full time." Implies 8 hours a day for at least five days a week, last I checked (40 hours a week). If you can find a mid sized mod on HLP that has ANYONE staffed full time, you will win at least one internet.
-
True true... and I knew someone would come up with something when I said it.
According to the Kotaku interview, they are doing 7 to 9 hours a day, interns I think said 3 hours in a rotating fashion.
Plus other jobs and/or families.
Still impressive either way.
-
Looks good, I like the terrain very much (looks nice futuristic). The muzzleflash is a little annoying, and the mech needs deeper stump sounds. Jumpjets are a little overused imo, they are more flying than walking. Still, I like it.
What I don't like, seems to be a little to fast for me and a simple MP "shoot the other players". Not really something I take joy in.
-
IMO it looks like it has as much Descent in it as it does Mechwarrior. It has my interest.
-
I once said that my computer has been able to play every game that I'd actually WANT to play because there simply aren't any new games out that interest me at all.
I can't say that anymore :(
-
Also, try and pay close attention to the Sounds in the game. It's just awesome.
-
Hopefully Hawken is moddable. I so want a MechWarrior mod on that engine.

In-****ing-deed.
The part with the ship pounded my ears with epic bass.
-
It looks interesting indeed. I hope (like Thaeris said) that it wont end up being just a random shoot-em-blast-em-up (which is nice for a while though) and have a campaing of some sort. OR be moddable so that the tube-community could make a campaing for it.

From what I've seen, looks like they're planning multi-only.
On the bright side, since it's on the Unreal engine, it should be extremely moddable.

Some Moar Trailerage (http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/08/26/hawken-story-trailer?objectid=103025&show=HD)
-
Looks like Chromehounds except first person.....and actually good :nervous:
Interesting.
-
New trailer seems pretty generic, overall, but I still like the look of the game (Descent combat pacing, with mechs).
-
WANT.
Enough said.
-
il just keep playing mwll.

Desert Map (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/desert-map-hawken/720113)

dust makes everything better

When I first watched this, I was immediately reminded of the Walker segments from Killzone. Looks impressive, but I'll have to see some story stuff before I get truly interested.

So, they are now taking sign-ups for the beta. People are getting referral codes, that if filled, allows the referrer to reserve their callsign registration. I've already got one referral, and I need 2 more to be able to reserve.
Hit it up. And here is their YouTube channel for anybody wanting a refresher: Adhesive Games YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/AdhesiveGamesLTD)
Referral: http://playhawken.com/?ref=o9oiec6a
Post here if you take a referral (only need 2 more!) and then you can post your own referrals (each referral needs 3 pickups for registration)
-
Wohoo! Now I'm only one away. Please, just one more wafer...er, I mean, referral.
*Edit: I have my name! Awesome! Course, now they are teasing that even more things are possible, so...choose your comrades wisely.
-
I'm in need of great linkage for justice....

-
Zacam, are you done? I enlisted on both of yours.
-
I'm all registered. See you guys there - under InvertedVantage. :D
-
I got in - Zinv
Though it says if you keep recruiting people, you get some sort of rewards.... no clue what they mean.
But fine by me, thanks to anyone who helped.
-
Looks like Phantom Crash, only with better graphics than those on the first gen XBox.
-
This looks pretty sweet. I'm in.
If it's moddable, then holy crap I will shoot down the moon with a blow gun for this game. Gundams and Mechwarrior mods anyone?
-
https://playhawken.com/?ref=hehagls3 < new link :P.

Took a look at the trailer.
Hated the vapor effects, the obvious jump ceiling (complete with stutter!), complete utter and total lack of destructible surroundings, and prancing anime mecha fights.
Yeah, no. I'll keep waiting for MWO, thanks.

I'm going to assume you haven't seen that desert map trailer then. Cause if your comment is based on that trailer than I can only conclude you are dumb.
'obvious jump ceiling' please do point out where exactly this is at all visible and ' prancing anime mecha fights', you don't know what you are talking about. The pacing shown in Hawken is only one step above mechwarrior because the mechs have jumpjets which they can seemingly only use limitely to do a quick strafe and jump. The walking is slow as balls and has this delicious weight to it. Which is nothing like say eXteel or one of those Gundam arcade games which are more about quickly dashing in and out of combat.
Recent Hawken material has been quite impressive and seems like it might be a lot of fun. MWO has shown nothing but an ancient trailer and some concept art and because of its F2P model may end up sucking hard.
-
I have seen the desert map trailer, and granted while the Mechs felt significantly more imposing from a cockpit view than a free camera view addressing the anime mecha fights, the vapor effects (which are EVERYWHERE) still look like balls, the completely indestructible surroundings are annoying, and the jump ceiling still appears to exist, seeing as how there isn't a single point anywhere in either of the trailers I've seen now where a Mech has jumped more than three meters in the air and kept going up; they all just hit three meters and run into a damn wall without going another centimeter.
-
This game looks pretty freaking awesome so far. Indie studios seem to be our only hope these days, now that AAA titles are all some variation of Call of Honor 9,001: Modern Warhawk Circlejerk. I miss the days of MechWarrior, although I only played it pretty casually.
Maybe with the indie movement gaining steam (and resources), we can finally resurrect some genres that were dead. Y'know, like space sims. I'm still holding out for a CryTek space sim. I'm pretty sure the engine is flexible enough.
-
Already have one, I'd appreciate another or two:
https://www.playhawken.com/?ref=dug4tlfp
Scotty is just a negative nancy.
It could be, say, like Armored Core with Gundammy robots flying everywhere pew pew pew shhh boom Itano Circus/Macross Missile Massacre with tons of Roboteching and middle fingers to physics and common sense abound.
Actually Armored Core isn't that bad about it, and I like Armored Core.
So instead I'll just go with what I think's best: play MWO and Hawken and Netmech and Armored Core.
I'm still holding out for a CryTek space sim. I'm pretty sure the engine is flexible enough.
CryEngine 3 should be able to do it.
I'd rather have a Descent-like game from one of the versions of CryEngine though, and it'd probably be easier to make.

More excited for this game than MWO right now.
Not really digging the healthbars tho'
-
I just signed up for the closed beta, MY BODY IS SO READY!!!!!!!!!!!
-
What's making me focus more on MWO (besides its history) is that this looks like an FPS with mechs rather than a fast-paced mech sim. The health bar seems to reinforce this idea. I'm looking forward to playing both games, however.
-
Seein' how y'all mussed up the mechwarrior thread here is some Hawken to cleanse the pallet. No Mobile Suit commentary if ya know what's good fer ya.
Customize the stompyness! (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/customization-walkthrough-hawken/732518)

Man, such ****ty physics! My suspension of disbelieve is completely shattered.
These mechs are way too fast, they move like them fast metal ninja samurai's and ****. Why isnt it more slow and realistic like battletech?!
You bloody asked for this :p
Srzly though.
It's cool that they offer some customization. From that video it mostly seems like a visual thing, which I kinda doubt will be really noticable in the fast gameplay that they've shown so far.
But boy... these mechs are some serious ugly ducklings... despite that, still looking forward to this. The gameplay looks really intense.

SPOOOOOOOOONZER!!
Well looks like the visual component is dissociated with the capabilities customization. According to the video they offer full weapons, specialties and a "skills tree" to specialize your mech.
-
The skill tree they've shown reminds me a lot of the one in league of legends (http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/mastery-tree-planner).
Also, I wouldn't be averse to a gamemode that disabled the health gauge on the target you are shooting at. I wouldn't go so far to call it an immersion breaker but I'd rather look at the mech im shooting at than focus all of my attention on getting that health bar down to zero.
-
So looks like open beta is available, anybody give this a go?
-
So a lot of people here asking how this is any better than your average FPS? The answer is in this thread: customization!
I hope they implemented it nicely, I'll give the game a try soon.
-
Modern Warfare has customization too. This game will have to do more than that to impress me.
Especially with MWO already in Open Beta as well.

LOL you can't change your feet and legs in modern warfare! At least not like you could in a mech game. Again: I haven't played it yet so I don't know how they implemented it. But the potential for customization is much much larger, and with not just cosmetic customizations in mind.
-

Hawken's skill tree is notable for just how much it doesn't boost your performance. Stuff like a 0.3% increase in bullet damage only, or at the far end of the offensive skill tree a whopping 1.5% boost in damage from all weapons! The only skills that really matter is that of the player controlling the ninja-mech.

So I've been playing off and on for a couple weeks. Managed to grind my way to a Bruiser, which I find a pretty enjoyable machine:
It certainly will take a while to grind for the in game currency, there is the option to buy some credits but having not partaken I don't what the exchange rate is. As far as game play goes its very fast paced, mechs are very mobile and relatively fragile compared to say Mechwarrior. Maps are very busy and take advantage of a lot of vertical, effectively using the environment and attaining advantage positions over your opponents is very useful. All Mechs seem to come with two weapons, typically a kinetic primary and a rocket or 'nade based HE secondary as you rank up your mech alternate primaries become equipable. Also as you level up more slots open up on your mech for secondary items like droppable MG turrets, Health recharges and EMP. There are some internal slots that change some stats as well but i haven't scrapped up enough credits to buy any. I wish they allowed you to rent items/mechs like Blacklight, right now its a little difficult to judge what to buy since trial and error is expensive when your're grinding for points.
