Not to be callous, but the country lies on the largest, most active fault zone in the world. It can hardly be considered surprising, although the human consequences are undeniably awful. One just hopes that people are staying away from the coastal zones and heading for high ground.

I know, I'm not sure that is callous, as it is pointing out an obvious fact.

It's kind of scary that we can now look at a 7.1 there as a minor blip as opposed to the major quake it is in reality.
