Title: Can't find .tbl files

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how does one go about editing ship.tbl and armor.tbl files? I've downloaded the vp viewer, but I just can't find the .tbl files anywhere in the Freespace 2 directory. Are they supposed to be in the 'tables' folder in Data?

Extract the files from the VPs using VPView or Maja, place them in /data/tables. Root FS2 does not have an armor.tbl, but the MediaVPs, Blue Planet, and maybe some other mods (not sure which) do.

Using vpview (or whichever VP viewer you downloaded), open root_fs2.vp in your FreeSpace 2 directory. They're in there.

Yes. They are in root_fs2.vp.

However, if you want to make alterations, you should really use modular tables (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Modular_Tables) instead of editing ships.tbl directly. Also note that under no circumstances you should alter the files in the vps (that is, leave the contents of the vp files untouched). Also Also, there is no armor.tbl for retail, because armor.tbl is an SCP addition.

Just be sure to copy the files, save them in the data/tables folder and then do your editing. The stock files in the .vp folders are o be left alone.
