Title: Truespace Availability
Post by: Petrarch of the VBB on May 11, 2002, 02:24:57 pm
I tried this out at F2S, but didn't get much of a response, so:

Does anyone know of a site where I can download full versions of Truespace? I've got version 1 but it's no good for FS modding apparently, version 2 must be around somewhere as I remember it being on the coverdiscs of a mag called PlanetPC a few years ago.

There is a bit on an FSW tutorial about it being on some Descent site, but the link doesn't work. Any help would be... helpful.

You really don't want a retail Truespace. It's bad. REAL bad. As in,  if you're that desperate to waste your time and money, mail me twice the cost of TS and fill out my tax forms. That'll come out about equal to trying TS, if you convert fun level to money or vice versa.

It IS good for FS modding (especially if you don't have better).
A lot of us have made working FS models in TS1.
Keep trying !
Then sometimes Caligari makes available fully working versions of their newest software as time limited trial.

I personally think for mesh building the free Wings3D is a lot better then TS1. TS1's mainly good for the finishing touches. In particular, making the submodel hierarchy. And despite what someone said, you can even make turrets in TS1. (That's what my Turreting 101 page is all about.) It's harder then using TrueView I'm sure, but it's all I've got. Doing textures in another program, like Lithunwrap or UVWrapper, is better then doing them in TS1. UVMapper can't open or save cobs though. (It uses Wavefront object files, which TS1 supports.) As far as using Wings3D for making meshes, I recommend when the mesh is ready for testing that you select and export each seperate part as a wavefront object and open it in TS1. TS1 will give you the option to resize it. Chances are you want to do that. Then you'll need to make sure it's facing left from the top down view. :)

Well then, if talking about downloading full progs is likely to get me banned, are there are any decent free- or share-ware 3d design whatnots suitable for FS modding?
