Hi all! I'm doinga final university project based on Freespace and I wanted to reconstruct a 1:700 scale model of a Deimos class corvette. I wanted to ask if anybody has some kind of schematics of it. It would save me a lot of work and time spent in reproducing it from photographs ans still images of the ingame shots. Please e-mail me if you have anything that could help me =) Thanks in advance!

Open the .pof file in PCS2 and use that as a reference.
-
ehm...What's a PCS2 ?? =) I'm not really familiar with technical computer things
-
POF Creation Suite 2, used to view and set up models for use in FreeSpace 2.
-
Thanks! You know where I can find the pof models? Can't fin them in the freespace 2 folder :(
-
You will want to use the MediaVPs Deimos model. It is called corvette2T-01.pof and it is located in mv_assets.vp in your mediavps_3612 folder. Use VPView or Maja to extract it.
-
You'll need to get a tool that can open up .vp files, several can be found here (http://freespacemods.net/download.php?list.51). Using these, you can extract the Deimos model from sparky_fs2.vp (Or the higher-poly version from the mediavps, that one can be found in mv_assets).
The file you are looking for is called "corvette2t-01.pof" in both cases.

And, instead of 1:700, why not 1:72 instead .
-
Actually, you would be better off doing Hattie model instead of Deimos, because the latter's HTL isn't very good, while the former is one of the best.
Hades was remodelling a HTL Deimos, but it seems that the project is on hold.
-
The hattie looks very hard to build a physical model for, but it would probably impress your instructor a lot more.
-
What modelling material are you using? Plastic, wood, metal or something else?
Some members have made FS fighter and capital ship models out of paper/card and shown them on HLP in the past.
EDIT: Too bad this isn't real: http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7704 (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7704)

Thanks everybody =) I've managed to take some measurements using Fred, even though I still have the older models and not the Source Code ones, but it's ok; I wanted to "modernize" a little the Deimos design anyway =)
@ Lostllama: I will probably use wood as I have a friend that works as a luthier and I will be able to use his laboratory and machinery, but I won't exclude some elements of plastic and metal =)

According to the Wiki the Deimos is 717m long, so at 1:700 scale that'll be a little over 1m.
I think that's roughly about the size of Vasudan Admiral's Orion: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=64745.msg1304888#msg1304888
EDIT: Oh wait, actually your's would be longer by about 37cm.
Sounds really cool, all the best with your project!
-
@lostllama: Lol yes it should be 1 m, but I'll pretend the Deimos is 700 mtrs long just to simplify things a little XD I was thinking about making the Aquitaine but that would have been too complicated and I have to finish it by the end of June possibly :P
-
Just make a cargo box.
Good luck.
-
what would you consider the most helpful possible thing you could imagine (that could be downloaded across the internet) ?

Dammit now I want to build a model of the Bastion
-
You could try using LEGO bricks, Drogoth. :p
Best of luck on this project, alcibiade.:yes:
-
Why not just hit F3 on the mainhall and save yourself the trouble of PCS2?? ;)
-
FSO does not offer orthographic projection modes, which are very helpful when gauging dimensions.

Suggested feature ;7 ?

PCS2 already offers orthographic view so not needed
