Okay, I just wanna get your reaction here. Whether you be familiar with music theory or not, just comment.

My Opinion Paraphrased:
- His solo is painful to hear. He can't play properly. He IS fast, but NOT the fastest, clearly. His improvisation is TOO inconsistent, I mean wtf, switching from some Minor-octave banging to occasional song quotations?
-Conclusion: Rating: 3.5/10. Yeah. This is disturbing to hear. Please, don't play this in public. You can have fun around experimenting like this, but this is really, really horrible performance ethics.
That's my perspective, though.
-
Music isn't about speed*. Music has never been about speed. So if anyone mistakes the ability to play fast for the ability to play well, they know very little about music.
[* Except The Sailor's Hornpipe, in which the orchestra cheats anyway so it doesn't really count]
-
Sounds like a lot of noise to me. I would love to play that fast, because then I could play the music in my mind, which I can't do so well at the moment...not that any music I play requires all that speed, but complicated chords would be easy to play :)

Is it sad that I knew what that was before I opened the link? :p
-
Could the greatest piano virtuosos (e.g. Rachmaninoff/Liszt/Tatum) actually play that alone?
-
Faster and better and all-around-awesomer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2iV5dR-21c)

I knew somebody was going to link to that sooner or later. In the future, consider linking to this this in-sync version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6eTRaC4W8Y). Or use live-action footage. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdUy70dh8LY)
Speaking of Circus Galop and fast piano players, is Death Waltz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx02KOGhjes) (of McRoll fame) considered fast?

I'm pretty sure that's not the Death Waltz. That's a piano remix of a Touhou game soundtrack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIop055eJhU&feature=related) that was also used for the McRoll. The actual Death Waltz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXMujWmFzNw) arguably isn't even a piece of music.

Ah, right, I forgot about the first bit.

Aren't Circus Gallop/Death Waltz designed for player pianos? I mean crap that's virtually impossible to play.
As people seem to be posting those kinds of vids, let's post more!!!

Not virtually impossible, literally impossible, unless you have more than 10 fingers and a 3 octave reach on both hands.
@OP, this guy sucks. I could play better than him, and I'm about 2 years out of practice.
-
What OP?

An alternative: two people on one piano. Both have to be very good, though.
-
Otherwise, two pianos.
Also, are you (Kolgena) referring to Oscar Peterson? You saying the Maharaja of Jazz sucks?
-
learn2internet, marcov. "OP" stands for "original post" or "original poster", ie the first post in this thread.

Oh....
Well time for another vid then!

It is physically possible for a piano to play Circus Gallop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdUy70dh8LY). Not saying anything about pianists. :p
Meanwhile, in the Moon... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPaI-vRO0FI)

Well...can a trained Giant Octopus with tentacles the size of human arms play that?
...oh and it uses its sucker cups to press the keys.

How 'bout a non-alcoholic band performance in the 1981 that's also free of some pink monkey and ununderstandable Asian letters?

This is pretty much a musical orgasm. God I love bebop jazz.

It's amusing to note that, a number of listeners actually criticized that performance, for not swinging.
