Title: Game magazines -- need opinions
Post by: PMY on April 15, 2011, 06:02:47 pm
Which online (or print) game magazines do you usually read and why? I mean primarily English language magazines.

Watching my favorite game magazine (its title won't say you much since it is non-English) getting more and more biased and boring I decided to look out for some alternatives. However, I didn't find any after a brief study of the local gaming press market - neither among print magazines, nor online (some have a biased reputation, some have a terrible design which make me sick and some simply don't have articles interesting to me). That's why I started looking out for English language magazines instead. The problem is I know very little about them to choose the right one and I don't have much time to read lots of them every day. So I need your opinions on this matter. Which one do you think is the best? And why?

Rockpapershotgun -- because they love us! Oh, and the writing's pretty good too.

kotaku -- because it works as a feed aggregator for me

Eurogamer -- Because the eternal ((PS3 vs X360) vs PC) flamewars on Digital Foundry are fun.

Game Informer (http://www.gameinformer.com/)
This one works for me pretty well. I even get it in print.

The Escapist has a few columns worth following.  Although the rest of it is tripe.

I dunno, I'd argue the only thing there that's good is ZP, and that's in a purely entertainment sense.
well, unskippable is sometimes decent.

The Extra Credits series there is fantastic too.

I want to like Extra Credits, but I can't.  It always comes so close (in the few that I've watched) to making valid arguments and/or observations (and in some cases does), before ruining it with a 'LULZ-MY-OPINION-IZ-TEH-FACTZORS' moment.

Extra Punctuation tends to be a little less for-the-sake-of-humor than Yahtzee's videos:

Experienced Points is the second best thing on the entire site:

I subscribe to PC Gamer and Game Informer. PC Gamer because it is awesome in reviews, style, and cleverness; Game Informer because it's the only all-encompassing video game (print) magazine since EGM died.
I don't read online things much, since it's hard to do that while I eat lunch or use the restroom.
