I've downloaded the 3.6.10 RC2 zip file so that I can play Saga Prologue - Behind Enemy Lines.
Can someone please tell me where it should be extracted to?
thanks in advance
-
You shouldn't be using 3.6.10, even less a RC build. Grab 3.6.12 here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70692.0) and drop it directly in your main Freespace2 folder (should be something like C:\Games\Freespace2\).
-
And on top of that, when using WCSaga, you should only use the builds provided by the WCS team.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I extracted to the Saga Prologue folder.
Seems to be a lot of extra files in there now..some with icons a bit like a $.
Still getting the error message though . It is summarised by "this filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable".
The new build was supposed to fix that.
Thanks E
How about pointing me in the right direction and helping a bit?

Go to the Wing Commander Saga board, ask there. But the fact of the matter is that the WCS prologue can only be guaranteed to work with the engine build included; Newer FSO builds will crash and burn with it.

You know, it would help immensely if you told us just what the actual error message is.

Are you actually using the new builds?

I downloaded fs2_open _3_6_12.zip and extracted it into the Saga Prologue folder.
Am I using it?

Obviously you're not, do you know what "launcher" is?
Select the new build using the button at the very top of the launcher and try again.
-
That depends of course on WCS actually shipping a Launcher, which I am not sure of. Simply double-clicking on the FSO executable should suffice.
That said, remember that you're definitely going to run into issues. The WCS Prologue is old and hasn't been maintained. It was already buggy with 3.6.10, the improved error checking in .12 will mean that there'll be a lot more errors thrown.

Newer builds won't work, since the autopilot code is broken beyond repair.

Thanks guys.
I guess it's a bit of a lost cause.
Any newer projects I should be looking at?
I have the Babylon Project and the Saga Prologue works fine too.

I've played it and it worked, not to mention I was also using AP in my missions (granted, some time ago) and it was, in general, doing what it was supposed to do.

If you want to play the prologue missions with newer builds, then I highly recommend to get the 3.6.12 mod for Wing Commander Saga Prologue: http://www.ciinet.org/kevin/wchf/downloads.html

Thanks FekL
The link goes to a page with links to the required files, and gives full instructions on how to install them.
Brilliant!!!

That's because you aren't using the FS2_Open 3.6.12 EXEs, you're using wcsaga.exe, which is based on FS2_Open 3.6.9. You're supposed to be using FS2_Open 3.6.12 with the WCSaga 3.6.12 mod.

See my posts above yours Thunder.
I had the same problem.
BTW I found that after installing the new files everything works fine if it is run from the launcher, but that error appears if I try to use the Windows Start menu.
