Title: Model Dock points?
Post by: Zanar on April 20, 2011, 07:53:02 pm
Hi everyone I'm just wondering how to add a rearm point to a POF
lets say i want to make a missile a "playable ship" but i cant add a dock point with the POFCS2 that came with Freespace Open
whenever i try clicking on the dock setting it crashes
on modelview the dock setting is gray.......
anybody got a tutorial for adding model docks for rearming a ship??

What version of PCS2 are you using?

Ah ok, that's an old one.

There's a lot more that goes into making a ship flyable besides just adding dockpoints, although I can't imagine PCS2 crashing the way you describe.

What kind of graphics card do you have? If it's an Intel, certain older versions of PCS2 used to crash whenever they tried to display "omnipoints" (sphere with a center, radius, and possibly a normal vector)... something to do with VBOs.

Try opening an existing model and looking at subsystems, dock points, paths, turrets, etc., and see if it crashes. If pretty much everything crashes, it's probably that. It may have been fixed in newer versions. Spicious (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=915) has a fairly recent version in his signature you could try.

Hasn't been fixed. I still crash when switching to a tab needing to display those omnipoints on my intelgrated 945.

Does turning "Use OpenGL VBO" off (or on) changes anything?
Once, I've found PCS2 very unstable when using it, while without it, it acted quite well.
The downside, of course, is the fact is becomes really slow without VBO.

Using VBO purely and simply instacrashes my PCS2 as soon as a ship is loaded.

(And before you ask, yes, I'm using a recent version. The BSP fix one actually.)

isnt there a setting in the options to disable vbos?

Of course there is - if there wasn't, I wouldn't be able to use PCS2 at all, as I stated.

With VBO -> instacrash when a ship is loaded.

Without VBO -> crash when displaying omnipoints.
