Title: my first ship model

well, I've been kinda bored lately, and decided to to make my own cap ship model.  It's probably about cruiser-size an I'll admit, I didn't put too much effort into it.  It kinda reminds me of a Mon Cal ship but oh well.  here it is:

well, I'm cheap.  I want to make the turrets as simple as possible, though I'm not sure if I'll ever get this in-game, as I don't know didily about texturing.  especially in TS1.  I'll try and whip up a few more ships.  In fact, another's almost done!  (no turrets though)

this ship has a more Shivan look to it.  I'm sorry the pics is so small.  (I also hate how the render came out as far as shading.)  This ship took about 10-15 minutes to make (from scratch mind you).  The other took roughly the same time.  Well what do you think?  Am I okay for a newbie modeler?

Delta, that last one looks hella cool, although it'll need a wee bit of a different face to make it more sinister, I could picture it in FS  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Rhino rules dude, it's far more accurate and it's easier to get good results than with max. It's a damn sight cheaper too!!

well thanks for all of the positive feedback (excluding Fattony of course).  I'm still thinking of some new designs.  I'm not sure about fighters.  they seem to be a little more complex than cap ships, but I could give it a go.  my only update is that I've made a "dual-orion" in which two orions have been pasted together (on the sides oppisite of the fighter bays).  It actually looks pretty good.  I'll try to get a render up later.  until later.

mapping?  probably not, but then I'd be lucky to map a cube in TS1!  seriously, I'm not sure what I'd do about textureing.  If there's a texturing tutorial out there (using TS1) or if anyone could give me some pointers, I'd give it a try.  I've designed some new ships, but only on paper.  I'll try to get them modeled after school.

Max Sterling's tutorial gives you the basic hints for texturing in TS. Look for it on freespace.volitionwatch.com
