Title: Soooo good.
Post by: Spoon on April 27, 2011, 07:45:32 pm
So you punks like BP:WiH huh?

Well guess what.
You've seen nothing. NOTHING.

WiH R2 is so much better than R1. My mind has been blown and my world has been rocked.
Mission design that is so incredibly complex and well fredded and most of all, its fun. Story and plot so well written, important things are being revealed ladies and gentlemen!
The BP team has taken almost every bit of criticism I had of R1 and created well... a masterpiece.

Let the hype commence.

Glad to hear it. I'm honestly looking forward to War in Heaven R2 more than any other piece of entertainment out there. It usurped Mass Effect for me as my favourite series this 'generation.' Reminds of how much I was looking forward to the mega-budget Phantom Menace in '99, only for it to be completely blown away by a little-known, no-hyped action film called The Matrix. Except ME is actually good but you know what I mean.

It is enough to start hype, not continue it until the release of WiH R2.

Can we expect WiH-R1-Director's Cut to come out before R2 or not?

That's hard to say. Voice acting made significant progress but then basically screeched to a halt when IssMneur got busy.

We would need someone very literate to work on generating scripts for voice actors.

When the guy who crafted my other favorite FS2 campaign offers praise like that, my attention is grabbed.

Consider R2 hyped.

Ah, it's just a video game.

I want to issue the orders that will bring the roar of artillery shooting past my fighter. I want to feel the slow burn of tev whiskey liberated with ice cometary water. I want to hear the voices of the Vishnans in my head. I want to feel the pulse of the stars following through my veins.  The penance of the ancients. The combination of the planet ears. The wisdom of the Elders. The balls of Steele.

I want to see the last cataclysmic battles of the Sol-GTVA war. I want to see Byrne's secret project. I want Shivans in Sol (not really). I want dozens of Narayanas firing at the Atreus or the Imperieuse (taking-you-with-me) Jesus, thanks to you Spoon, the expectation for R2 rips me apart. ;7

Sooo, that means the release could be soon?

Definitely looking forward greatly to it, though I'm betting, like WiH1 did to me last year, I'm going to have to rewrite and rework a lot of my current stuff to be a lot better before I'd even dare to release it to the public ;)

Keep up the good work, definitely hope it's release is not very far off.

I-I'm not a p-punk or anything, b-baka....

...never mind that. Still, for some reason I'm not really hyped up to the point of going 'omgomgomgomgwantwantwant!!', but I'm still looking forward to R2...a lot...lots. Maybe because I've adapted to being patient for good stuff. I wonder if we're going to see a GTVA-UEF-Vishnan-Shivan battle over Earth...

THIS. I want...
REVENGE.
I want strong moments before my screen.
I want to cry.
I want to to feel the same strong emotions I felt while playing "Delenda Est"

But... I'm also patient. Take your time to be AWESOME. Thank you in advance for the dreams you'll give us !

I want*...

Cutscenes (something about them... just amazing)
Capital Ship Control
Spoiler:
Blood, Tears and undying determination (the same I felt when playing Medal of Honor, 4 guys vs x amount of Afgan rushing down that hill, with rpgs etcetc. and no ammo.. ) (aka, we're fked and we fighting anyway). :)

I have a personal interest in the Fedayeen, and this project of the first fleet. But mainly the Fedayeen, I want to know if the Lucy surviving Vasudans went with them.
I would like to see the Indus again, and the Vishnans.. but keep that Shivan super J away. Earth is not a light snack for it.

And, if such a battle existed. And my puter would melt, entirely worth it!.

* denotes a lot of wants from BP. Which, BP delivers regardless.

My noobness aside for a moment, I am really looking forward to R2. BP is pretty much like a movie to me, I love it. Over and over again. Maybe Im watching the Indus fall towards the Sun too much...

Last time I heard something about the next Act being almost finished and then the next two still getting worked on or something like that, or something like that.

That is essentially correct. WiH has a 5-Act structure, and what you played in WiH R1 is acts 1 and 2. Act 3 is more or less finished, and currently in betatesting (which is why Spoon got to play it). Acts 4 and 5 are pretty much planned out, but actual FREDing still needs to be done.
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: CKid on April 29, 2011, 12:40:51 pm
Hang on, 5 chapters? I thought WiH was going to be 4 chapters, each one being 15 missions long.
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: Deadly in a Shadow on April 29, 2011, 12:46:57 pm
Me too. And every act has about 15 missions?
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: CKid on April 29, 2011, 12:52:16 pm
oops, I mean the first two acts together were 15 missions so I thought the other two would also be 15 missions together making WiH the same length as AoA. (30 missions)

This is more like it. Five acts, spread over two releases, one already out. Act 3 is eight missions, though one of those missions is...it could probably be counted as more than one mission, I suppose. Acts 4 and 5 should be targeting similar-ish lengths.

This will make R2 about 1/3 larger than R1. Perhaps a bit more.
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: The E on April 29, 2011, 01:08:12 pm
The point is, we don't really want to pin us down on any specific length. We have an approximate length we're shooting for, but things might happen that will cause us to drop missions or add others.

Post by: crizza on April 29, 2011, 02:14:11 pm
Well, it's like writing a good book. You have your storyboard and everything, but while you're writing it often happens, that the plot develops unexpected.
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: JCDNWarrior on April 29, 2011, 02:16:51 pm
Happens to me a lot too Crizza, so it's only logical the dev team doesn't want to be pinned down on what they've said many months before release. By the time you're done shaving things down to exactly where you want it to be, a lot may have changed.
Title: Re: Soooo good.
Post by: Jellyfish on April 29, 2011, 03:43:43 pm
Reminds me of the early days of CG movies. By the time you finished the movie, you did so with techniques you didn't use when you started, so you redid the movie with those new techniques, and then you find more new techniques...
Cue dev hell.

With that said, I've never been more exciting for anything since April 14. Good job as always.

r2 can't possibly be a letdown. If it's half as good as WiH r1 it'll still be an absolutely stunning experience.

As has been said many times, they did originally intend to spread their forces throughout the system and open with negotiations. When that failed, they would cripple the UEF forces from the inside out with minimal bloodshed, having taken up positions in strategic locations.

Two things happened as a direct result of the Vishnan intervention: 1) The forces arrived late in Sol, giving the UEF time to prepare after (IIRC) detecting unusual subspace activity at the newly-reestablished Sol gate, and 2) The ordeal suffered by everyone in the fleet, especially meeting the Sanctuary, convinced some of them that they couldn't wage a war against their own people. Admiral Bei and Captain Bei's wing defected outright, as did the Sanctuary (obviously) and IIRC that one Anemoi, and a bunch of other ships were crippled as defectors fought against GTVA loyalists.

[EDIT] I got some of this right and some of it wrong but read "The Reunion" in the species.tbl it says everything
