Hello Everyone,
I am very new here so I am not sure if this problem was not already solved but I could not find it anywhere on the net. The mouse is not working in the game. It works perfectly in the system, in the game menu but when it comes to the gameplay my ship is not moving. I can fire my weapons using mouse buttons but can not move (rotate) the ship. The same problem in FS1, FS2 and FS Open. I am using Win Vista so I tried running in compatibility mode but it does not helped. I would really appreciate your help because I am not very good in this technical things and I will not figure it out by myself.
System:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2GHz
3GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 7300 GT
Win Vista 64bit
Mouse PS/2 or USB (I tried both and nothing)
Background.
Some time age I wanted to play Freespace once again starting from FS1. To be honest I even did not know about FS Open. I installed the FS1 first and found that my mouse does not work in the game (mouse is turned on in the options menu and the sensitivity is set to max). I installed the latest patch but it did not helped. When I start to search for some help I found that the best way is to install FS open because it solves a lot of problems. I installed the FS2 first, as it is needed (the mouse did not work either). Finally I installed all the FS Open. Everything looks really great, the graphic looks beautiful but mouse is still not working. Years ago when I played FS I really get used to playing with keyboard and mouse (keyboard for maneuver and mouse for targeting) and I would like to continue playing that way.

Have you actually activated the mouse in the in-game options menu?
-
Yeah. In the main hall, click the options dude (or press F2), and on the left is the "Mouse" part, with an on/off toggle. You have, apparently. Sorry about that. Hmm, no idea in that case.
-
Yes I did. I tried to switch it on and off also from the game (F2 to enter options). I tried to change the sensitivity but it has no effect at all.
-
Hmm.
Please read the FAQ stickied here and post a log.
Also, do you have any software running in the background that could interfere with the mouse?
Another thing to try is to get a recent nightly build and use the "Don't use DirectInput for mouse control" feature from the Troubleshooting section.
-
The log is attached.
I turned off most of the software but it does not helped. I never had any problem with the mouse in any other game so I think it is more like FS specific.
I use build 3_6_12 and there is no such a feature in Troubleshooting section. Can I add it somehow?

Guys, I forget, can FS2 assign mouse axis? If so, I bet you need to re-set the mouse x-axis and z-axis. Click on the setting to assign it and very carefully move the mouse left-right for the x-axis setting and up-down for the z-axis setting.

As The E said, you could try getting a recent nightly build, since they include that feature. Nightly builds are available at the nightly builds board (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=173.0).

Dunno, but every time I've tried using a mouse, it has worked immediately without having to do anything.

You are right! It needs to be set as any other control. I am so stupid
Thank you all for your help! I already thought it will not be solve.

Cool. Good call, jr2.

... glad to see it's fixed, but now I'm wondering how on earth it got set to non-default settings with both retail FS1 & 2 -- Open I can see it would use retail's settings. But how did it get changed in the first place? Normally it's automatically set. A mystery to ponder.
EDIT:

That's why I"m now confused. Logically, it is a setting that would cause this problem. But logically, if you didn't change it, this setting should not be changed by itself and therefore couldn't cause this problem.
@Batts: thanks
EDIT: I wonder if it's a problem with his FS1 install... maybe he got an OEM version of FS1 that was a bit odd or the disk was scratched. FS2 copied FS1's settings (does it do that?), then ofc Open uses FS2's settings.

Since key bindings (of which Joystick/Mouse axis bindings are a part) are stored in the pilot file, no, that's not possible. Could be a case of pilot corruption, but hard to be certain.
-
I am affraid that was my mistake. I wanted to start playing so fast that I get through the settings and delete this binding just after seeing that this is for analog controls only (thinking about joystick) without careful check that the mouse is also assign there. Nevertheless thank you all for your help. I am getting back to the game :)
