Ok, here is the new SDF Njord redesign... the only resemblance with Dark's ship is th bottom "strut"...
Opinions please :)
-
hehehe it looks like it has a very big wang hanging off of it... hehehehe
-
That 'wing' looks like something else.........:D:D
-
You perverted mans!!! Get burned!!!! :D
-
*BFReds Raven* Shaddup! :D:D:D
I've heard of pilots overcompensating but...........:D:D
-
Make it a shivan ship. Then we can say we've discovered where little shivan ships come from :)
-
If the 'strut' is part of the ship then please get rid of it, it looks silly. Also its looks (to me) a little bit squashe length wise. May be increasing the size this way by half again would help. Other than these minor points. Good work!
-
Yeah, cut the bottom appendage. It looks wrong.
-
 oh...dear...lord...
-
you twisted minds
with propper maps, it won't look like "that" at all
-
But still it's too big...I don't belive what I'm sain'
-
ROTFLMAO!!!!
This has got to be a joke. Please tell me it's a joke. I mean, look at that bottom right hand picture! You've got this tiny looking ship with a massive penis hanging off the bottom. Please don't release that without a sex change. Please. As a favour to me.
-
Maybe it's pilots. oups :nervous: never mind *runs*
Remove the ***** and you won't get hurt
-
Let's see...[list=1]
- First step, cut off that damn thing! It makes it look like the worst ships since the GTD Dildo!
- Next, make it about three times longer.
- Textures are good to put on ships
-
The bottom strut  is a little too big, I think, but the rest of the fighter is much improved over the original. The strut also looks like its hanging on by a thread.

Noone's gonna cut off my... :p
-
Yes, quit whining and get rid of the damned thing!! :D:D
What is she anyway? A bomber or a fighter?
-
i wouldn't call that a 'she'
-
Well, it's a ship, :. it's a she. :p
-
I wouldn't call it a she....... look at the little wing......
-
Alright, so it's a fighter that's had a sex change........
-
Sometimes I really wonder why there is such outcry....I see what you guys are talking about....but its not what comes to mind when I look at that ship.
There's a whole lot of you who are either 14 years old OR you have some kind of embarrasment/envy about it.
-
I see what you guys are talking about....but its not what comes to mind when I look at that ship.
Same here, although that part should probably be shortened a bit regardless of this similarity; it looks a bit out-of-place with the rest of the ship, if you know what I mean. ;) Make it the same size as those two outcroppings on the top-left and top-right corners of the model.
-
I'm 18 and I'm only saying to get rid of it to prevent the 'hilarity' that would ensue if a 14yr old got hold of the mod. Either get rid of it, reshape it (at least make it thinner) or shorten it.
You've got to admit that it looks tacked on and out of place.
-
Thunder's sig
Got Wang?
I refuse to grow up :)
-
GTD Dildo, LOL
...
if you will cut that..that...uh that thing i suggest the name
GTD Casablanca:D
-
 @ most of the replies

Ok, I've been out for a bit... now here's the strut thing:
1- As venom says, with textures it looks really different (still working my skills on that... but I'll do it...)
2- I want the goddamn dominion ships to be VERTICAL!!!
3- If instead of you winning about comparing the strut to a goddamn "dick", you could suggest any kind of remodelling of that part, WITHOUT meaning to take it out!!!!
Thank you... :)
Ryx: what does "@" means???

would look dumb and people would call the ship "small dick"
big difference, great idea
-
If it wanted to look less stupid then you should make the whole thing thinner ('strut' included). At the moment it looks like a squashed mymadon with a penis.
You could leave 'it' on if it were thinner, since it would look more like an interceptor, or the T wings (is that right?) from starwars.
pete
seriously, when u were designing it, did you never think for just "penis" one moment?!
-
It's good, but the thing hanging from the bottom of the ship is too big. I guess it doesn't fit, though I don't know...
-
If you want a vertical aspect to the ship I`d suggest increasing the size of the tailfin and then matching it with one underneath the craft. That would look quite striking.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooo............. downhill thread............................... lol.............it looks to big, looks like a penis, too small, theyg onna joke on who ever pilots the thing and say, "HEY ALPHA 1! U GOT A SMALL ONE DONT CHA'!?!"
all jokes aside.............(;7 ;7 ;7) nice modeling, but do something bout the wang stabalizer lol........ I dont see too many elephants getting balance from there PARA 50 CALIBER MACHINE GUN.........:devilidea
-
1. The few ppl that liked it, and didn't say any stupidity about it, made me stay with this design, so...... it will stay like this, because, with textures it will look great.
2. No, the goddamn penis never came to mind, so:
2.1. I don't know what a penis is...
2.2. Most of you have lack of sex, or don't know what that is... :D
- I choose 2.2. :p
PERIOD
-
The design is OK, but I think it would look a little better(please don't quote me on this :D ) if the thing sticking off the back looked a little more attached to the ship, because right now it looks sort of like it would fall off...
Oh yeah and it would be really hard to strafe a capital ship and avoid having that thing collide with it :p
-
A ship featuring the friendly weapon. Nice. Freudian.
No, I don't think it's ENTIRELY that obvious, but I get the sense that even if it were skinned well something subconscious would make me cringe every time it got shot in a dogfight...
I don't particularly like it anyway, so there goes your first argument. There's no reason for that lower... appendage to be there, it's way too big and chunky to serva any purpose, and it's ugly as all hell. And without it, that ship's a slightly modified Loki from the front and even less inspiring from the side- pointy little semiellipses?
-
a loki... have you played FS2 recently? :p
-
No, but I've played with the models plenty. From the front, it resembles a Loki carrying a sack of **** more than anything else.
-
I think if you kinda "pinched" the strut abit at its top so it became fatter but also a lil thiner (from the side) it might stop the youngens moaning abit.
To be perfectly honest mate i didnt think anything of it untill some one pointed it out, then it was like yeah i suppose it does abit, anyways im rambling now.
Keep it or leave it, at the end of the days its your choice mate.
-
I think it emphatically is.
Of course, it should have warned the first crowd off when he asked for opinions that he didn't really want them.:D

well, he was asking for opinion, not the "oh look! a dick!" childish behaviour...

It may have been childish but what kind of dumbarse designs a ship with such an obvious extension and doesn't expect such childish behaviour? If he didn't want the outcry he should have been more conservative in his design.

Because it wasn't obvious. If you've put effort into a model and you're happy with the way it turned out, You won't make that connection.
I fixed the symmetry for this ship and I didn't see it.
Perhaps you think about it when you model, but I know I don't when I model a new ship.
fun comment, for sure, but know it's wearing(sp?) thin.

Dark made some model with a sexual organ, but his maps made it look cool :D

Ummm. I think he's making the same point you did!
Anyway even if the strut didn`t look like a giant dick most of us would be suggesting cutting it off. It looks bolted on. Furthermore it looks bolted on for no good reason! What is it there for?
If the strut had looked like something less comical most people would have quite happily suggested removing or shrinking it since to a lot of us it just looks wrong.
-
ah? oups, my bad, misread :p
anyway, I like it the way it is, can be, dunno, a gravity well or something like that.
-
Why can't the "strut" just be replaced with a really large, razor thin wing? That would look a lot better
-
Yeah, make it thinner - it looks awful at that thickness.
When I make wings, I insist on making it as thin as possible.
-
As a rule, it's best to have some kind of practical application in mind when designing ships anyway... saying "Oh, this looks cool" and sticking random crap on may produce a result that looks good to you, but to anyone else they're usually laughable.
Aside from which, ships look cooler if they look like they DO something anyway- would the Stealth Bomber or a Tomcat be aesthetically improved by a pair of big, useless spiky structures on the wings, or a giant lump in the back?
-
When I design ships, I fully flesh out their components (at least the main ones) as well as where they came from, what they do, how well they do it, etc.
-
Well first you need a male Sathana and a female Sathana... after a while you have small mini Sathanans circling around blowing up starsystems...
-
BTW, the comment about "Make it three times longer" was referring to the length of the ship. It was not intended to be juvenile.
-
Try and keep the penis jokes to a null thanks, it's never been funny :)

No need to get all pmt on me i was just backing your statment up, with some evidence. doh...

There! that pic said it all!!!
About the purpose... Yes, it has a purpose. because it HEAVILY improves maneuverability (sp?), because the maneuvering (roll to be more precise9) thrusters are in the strut... if you know physics lever (I think that's the one...) law, you know that the thrusters put in that location make it roll faster than being put in the main body... (I hope that you understand what I'm saying, but its logical and true), and I want to give the sol dominion ships a new type of piloting, to make them original, so with these ships, instead of turning, you make most of the maneuvers roling and pitching like in a fighter airplain :)
I agree that from that pic the strut looks like it is hold only by a little piece, but that's just because the (minigun-type blasters are positioned right in front of it, and you can't see the connecttion very well from this angle :)
That's it, you may continue :)

I said I misread. anyway, I apologize again.

Cool!;7
And I just LOVE the F-14 Tomcat!
-
Haha. It really does look like it's hung like a Grand National champion race-horse. You could put a huge beam on the end that fires a white beam out......or not! That'd be funnier. A beam charge, then nothing, then a beam power-down.
Hmmmm. Is it getting warm in here?
Make it get smaller as apposed to larger at the end (the whole thing, not just the...er...head). And for God sake, don't use anything remotely pink for the textures :D.

Those look really good. I assume that the Njord's strut is an engine mount, in which case it physically wouldn't work, but it still looks pretty cool. As for that apollo rework, I WANT IT!!!

Yes, it is an engine mount :)
-
Well, considering you said its an engine strut....
[list=1]- Make the strut shorter.
- Make the Engine part longer on the Z-axis and move it back a bit.
- Lengthen the primary body of the ship.
OC, these are only my opinions.
-
I'm tottaly friendly to suggestions, but on this one, I won't change anything... because this one's out of the drawing boards... and I like it the way iot is, and you will too when it is textured, believe me, I've got a good idea for it...
But you can count that I will listen to your opinions of tweaking on my other models, if those don't mean taking out or shorten a certain STRUT!!! But if you've got nice ideas for remodelliung the struts, I'll consider them :)
-
I'd suggest at least making your struts have a thinner X-axis. Maybe lengthen the Z-axis on them even...
-
I think you should let the model untuched. It is good as it is now.
And when you know thing "Why he is (nearly) the only one liking the ship" read my sign.
BTW I can wait to see that Destroyer... the pic looks ...wow... I want to draw like that... beside many other things I want...

Heheh, time to break out the HLP Hammer of maturity?
BTW I'm very impressed by the ship design and the maps, realistic is good, yes, but without a little imagination it all gets a little dry.
-
Grey Wolf: I'll try to do that in the new Tolkien (name to be changed...), and see if it looks good :)
Gevatter Lars: thanks :) BTW, don't I know you??? Weren't you a modeler in the Lancers Reactor Community???
-
Bingo...
Yes I was a long time ago in the Lancers Reactor, but since the mission editor never comes out I changed to FS2.
And didn't you still have one of my models for texturing?

I think it's meant for maneuverability, so it would work, based on the principles of torque. But it's still to phallic. Maybe if it sloped back at the end and/or narrowed to a point instead of growing at the end?

Hmmm... yeah... You'l have to wait about those... cause I'm still trying to learn how to draw proper textures in PaintShop... buit I'll get it...
And... don't you remember me asking you to make me a model of a certain vasudan fighter??? :D

I was refering to the fact that it shifts the ship's center of mass so much that it would be more likely to spin in place than to actually go anywhere under main power. Unless there were main engines on top and on the strut and they were balanced power-wise. Not a big deal (especially since FS2 doesn't pay any attention to real physics anyway). What could be cool, though really hard to play, would be to set the center of rotation somewhere on that strut and try to fly it that way. That would be really tough in some respects, and would alter gameplay considerably.
