file bastion.ogg is out of date...
file collossus.ogg is out of date...
If i'm at this point of downloads and extractions, how far am I into the install? I started the install over 4 hours ago and I have a pretty fast net connection.
-
You mean with Turey's installer? Took me around 2 hours when I first installed SCP :D
-
It can be a slog. Just stick with it. If you get too annoyed, try a manual install if you're up for it.
-
Manual install is so much better. I much prefer to know exactly what I'm downloading and how recent or whatever it is.
-
No reason to do manual install imo... so far into this one already :)
At part2b.ogg already... I'm hoping that's it.
Nope... now intro.ogg....
is there a file listing somewhere so I can see how far away I am from the end?
-
The cutscenes total to around 270MB, IIRC
-
OMG....sparky_hi_fs1.vp downloading and extracting.... I'm heading into eight frigging hours! Is it re-downloading everything that it downloaded to begin with or something?
:(

Recommendation: Abort this crap and do it manually.

You choose to download everything, you end up downloading everything. And everything takes time.

Seriously.
Just go here man: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47640.0
Really helpful guide that'll show you how easy manual install is. Although at this point I can understand you might wanna just finish up with the installer.
-
LoL... 9.5 hours.
spark_hi_fs1.vp....
I have one question about this whole thing: If I downloaded and installed everything, why is it redownloading and installing everything?
XD
With this many hours, no sense in stopping it. I'll just let it finish. If it's still running tomorrow morning? Well... then someone needs a serious talking to. ;D
Ok. Going on 14 hours. I'm going to bed. If it isn't done by morning, I have a feeling my laptop is going to go through a window. Well... the one that's already broken anyways. I don't think my insurance policy covers rage on my lappy.

Because there's new versions of nearly everything :P
-
Srsly, just manually download tomorrow. Latest build of FSO, latest MVPs, then pick whatever campaigns you feel like instead. [shameless plug]There's an excellent way to find all of them stickied in the Mission and Campaigns board[/shameless plug]
-
Here's irony. Shortly after I went to bed, the download locked. lololol. I wasted all day yesterday ;_;

No you didn't - the stuff you downloaded should still be there.
-
Well nothing really works....
Launcher.exe tells me that it has to be in the same directory as the binary that I'm trying to use, which tells me that something isn't working right. I'm really good at pointing out the obvious. None of the mods show up when I use ds2_open_..._sse_2.exe.
Looks like the freespace port failed. None of the mods appear to be anywhere....
How could that thing run for 15+ hours and not finish downloading everything? I used it specifically so that I wouldn't have to go hunting for mod links and doing anything manually. Expected it to go for a few hours. Now I wasted all day and it looks like I'm going to have to delete everything and start from scratch!
I would have listened to everyone saying to just go manual a lot sooner if I knew that it was so far from being complete--and never would. Anything more than 4 hours for an install with modern net speeds and cpu speeds is kind of ridiculous.
-
That's pretty weird. It's possible something's wrong with the installer. Could you post a screenshot of your FS2 directory? That'll help us see what's gone wrong.
-
Yes.
-
You need to tell us a bit more about your system, then. In addition, you should do a search on your system for the files.
-
Here's the directory, but there are a few things added since I've been going through the manual install process.

That seems to be Win 7 or the server edition, right? If so, you might want to check <User directory>/Appdata/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files (x86)/gog.com/FreeSpace 2/ and see if the data landed there.
-
Nope, nothing there. :p
Its win7prox64
Is there anybody here on the "staff" that has teamviewer?
There's a reason I wanted to just have an installer do it all. Mods are always a pain to set up manually, and I haven't touched FSOI in nearly five years.
-
Mods aren't that bad to set up any more - each mod just goes in its own folder in the FreeSpace 2 directory.
-
I guess I meant the program itself. I'm down to MV_Advanced_3612.zip and FS1oggmovies.
That shouldn't make any effect with anything as far as the launcher goes. It's telling me that the binary isnt in the same directory.
-
That's pretty weird. Have you run the FS2.exe at least once to set the necessary registry keys? You could also try WXlauncher: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0
-
Yeah, I ran FS2.exe before anything else. Launcher is giving me "Error - The Launcher must be in the same directory as the binary you are trying to use."
It will still open, but there are no real options.
Ok, I take that back. I figured it out, there's a browse button for a reason. I think it's fixed now. It was trying to open 3_6_10 and I dont have that, I've got 3_6_12r. :|
Don't mind me, just noobing it up all hardcore. Hey, I'm a great pilot and I fix computers for half of my living, but this stuff just makes me want to slam my face through walls.
Where's the mod downloads? The installer apparently never got to that part.
-
Well, that depends what you want. At this stage in the game I would recommend Vassago's Dirge, Blue Planet 1/2, and Wings of Dawn as the cutting edge. Each of these can be downloaded from ModDB, and Blue Planet and Wings of Dawn have their own subforums here.
ED: all three require the 3.6.12 MediaVPs, and Blue Planet 2 requires that Blue Planet 1 be installed and up to date in a folder named 'blueplanet' in the FS2 directory.

If you have the launcher.exe in another folder like "launcher", remove it and try again. The launcher.exe and the FSO build you want to use must be in the same folder, in this case, "Freespace 2"
-
Wasn't this problem solved by deleting launcher.ini and running again? Or just editing it so it indeed pointed to the correct place?
-
No.

"The launcher must be in the same directory as the binary you are tying to use."
Delete the file "launcher6.ini" from your \freespace2\ folder.
...Yes?
-
You said "or just editing it so that it points to the right place".
Which won't work.
-
Err... IIRC, I've done that before to fix the problem. But I could be mistaken, and that fix may have changed since I did it. Anyways, deleting the launcher6.ini will cause FSOpen to re-create the file with the correct settings in it so that should definitely fix the problem.
EDIT: Downloaded fresh install with Installer and got the same error message; just fixed it by modifying the launcher6.ini file;
In the section
#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
[launcher]
exe_filepath = fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe;
Note the exe_filepath ... it was set to a file that wasn't downloaded by the Installer didn't exist (fs2_open_3_6_10.exe or somesuch). I edited it to the correct filename and it works now.

Also Silent Threat: Reborn, and first of all the FS Port (if you haven't played FS1 yet). There's a list here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70582.0) with all FS mods known to man, and most of them you can find on the Wiki as well.
