I just finished playing AoA.
As far as I can tell I followed the installation instructions of WiH....
But I'm getting an error upon startup:

Are you running a 3.6.12 or later Inferno build? Should have INF in the filename.

Where is the log file located. I cannot find one.

Where is the log file located. I cannot find one.
Try the Inferno build first. If that doesn't happen, you need to run a debug build (ends in -d or -debug) until you hit the error. Then navigate to FreeSpace2/data/ and see if you can locate fs2_open.log. If it's not there, and you're on a later Windows OS, check Compatibility Files.

That looks like a FRED debug build. Almost there, just try the one with FS2 instead of FRED2.
Once you've done that, locate the fs2_open.log file.

Almost there. You're posting the error, which is a start, but to fix the problem, we need the fs2_open.log file, which is usually located in FreeSpace2/data/. If it's too long to fit in a forum post, use Pastebin.
Promise that'll be it.
-
or, you could paste the whole thing within code tags, which I can't show because this forum is stupid and automatically closes my tags. arhghg
-
or put it in [/tt] tags :)
Won't work. The paste is often larger than the forum size limit.
-
Even when it's crashing on startup?
I know that it usually is if you manage to make it to a mission.

Ah - two big problems. First, move all the folders inside 'Mod' directly into the FreeSpace 2 directory.
You should end up with
\FreeSpace2\blueplanet
\FreeSpace2\blueplanet2
\FreeSpace2\mediavps_3612
Placing stuff in subfolders prevents the mods from being able to see each other.
Second - IMPORTANT - move your FreeSpace 2 directory to C:\Games\.
-
Are there any files that are "silent"?
I'm getting an error where it's not allowing me to move the freespace 2 folder because the "folder or file is open in another program"... I don't see anything obvious on the task manager list.
edit:
My computer fu is getting worse as I get older
I don't know what changed but it moved finally.
-
Did not see edit, post irrelevent.
-
Ok, it started.
Thanks General!

enjoy :)

No worries. Enjoy!

Aw nuts! No voice acting yet!
-
Not yet, but give it a roll anyway. We're working on it.

I'm loving it so far, but I'm having some major fps issues when the frigates are in play. ... is there a way to fix that?
I'm running Intel integrated HD graphics accelerator
800x600 with trilinear texture filter and 16 bit
and I was set to medium but dropping it to low.
-
No.

Well that's a new one on me. :eek2: Could you run the mission in debug and post another log?
That should not be happening. Why would that be happening? blehhhh
-
General and Blue Planet team. I ****ing <3 you guys.
Neomi, your heart rate is increasing. Would you like to see a picture of kittens?
LOLOLOLOLOL OMG GOLD.
I'm going to have to re-run tha tmission later. It didn't kill the game, just sorta bugged.
Man, I'm sorry, but this game becomes completely unplayable with the assault on Carthage mission. I can handle the crazy FPS lag when there one or two ships in one direction, but you spend this entire mission with on in your viewing area 90% of the time. You cannot see anything long enough to get through it. :/
Is there a way to shut off the rotation on the Frigates? That's got to be what causes the lag.... and also, the rotatyness is cool, but is it totally necessary if its a lag problem? Seems more asthetic than purpose, considering the GTA had grav-decks even during the Terran Vasudan War...
I've made four attempts at this mission. Each one ended exactly the same. I could not maneuver because of fps lag and thus was unable to take out beam turrets and thus lost the katana. Balls. :/
Any idea how long its gonna take to fix this little bug? Because I'm going to have to shelf it until its fixed.
-
The rotation stuff is in no way responsible for the FPS penalty Karuna frigates incur (How did you come to that conclusion anyway?), it's the fact that the Karuna uses somewhere over 30 textures, and a high number of render passes to fully render.
What you could try is to use a nightly build. We have made quite a few improvements to render performance, they could help you out a bit. But in the end, an Intel graphics chip is just ****; there isn't much we can do about that.
-
Well that could be a big chunk of it. While playing AoA, I had some slog there too. But I couldnt figure out how to render the ships not-so-much while also maintaining a quality of play that didn't involve shooting at giant blocks.
... Man, for an i7 modern computer, it sure sucks it up when it comes to even mostly 10+ year old graphics... I cannot wait until I get my desktop back. :'(

WiH year old graphics (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2208/screen0258.png)
-
A very good point. I shut rendering off though (finally found it) and the lag is significantly less whenever a Frigate is in my view screen.
-
What do you mean, "shut rendering off"? What exactly did you do?

@ The E
Features --> Troubleshoot --> Disable OpenGL Render Targets. :)
I still hit as low as 5.5 fps when staring at multiple Frigs, but if its just one or two theres almost no lag at all.

Could you please post a full fs2_open.log? There's something wrong with your install, I'd like to know what.

Is that an old log? Because that one has so many things wrong with it that you CAN'T play WiH, much less reach Delenda Est. Please generate a new one.
-
(don't mind him, there's a heart of gold down there)
-
Bear with me. Mods and I get along just long enough for me to play through them [sometimes] before they asplode in my face.
And that's the only log I've got. ... :/
-
And that's the only log I've got. ... :/
Well, you could always try the following:
- open the Launcher
- switch your build to fs2_open_3_6_12d_INF_SSE2.exe
- apply the changes, start the game and try to get to the main hall
- quit
Ta-dah. You should now have a brand-new, shiny fs2_open.log!
-
Please don't get snarky. :|
I think the other thread I started in general needs closed/removed/deleted. Since this is the exact same log.

Sorry--didn't see that little thing.
Someone should give me a custom title in bold hypercolor that says "LoL Nub". :p
-
Why you have Vassago's Dirge selected as mod?
-
Please post the logs only _once_. The answer can be found in the other thread.
-
I asked that the other thread be deleted. I guess it's just been shuffled.
Also, Dirge was selected because I finished both blue planet mods.
-
Well, since you probably had problems with BP, it would be good if you could generate a log while having WiH as an active mod. Dirge log really doesn't help us verify your BP setup is in order.
