http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/25/guantanamo-files-casio-wristwatch-alqaida
It is cheap, basic and widely available around the world. Yet the Casio F-91W digital watch was declared to be "the sign of al-Qaida" and a contributing factor to continued detention of prisoners by the analysts stationed at Guantánamo Bay.
Briefing documents used to train staff in assessing the threat level of new detainees advise that possession of the F-91W – available online for as little as £4 – suggests the wearer has been trained in bomb making by al-Qaida in Afghanistan.
I used to own one of these. Between being brown-skinned, having an Iranian surname and degree in Chemistry I'm sure I'd have been in real trouble if I'd ever flown to America wearing it! :p
-
I have one of these and I love it! Granted I don't wear it anymore because the strap broke, but it's worked for years without needing a battery replacement.
Guess I'm a terrorist then.
-
Looks like you've been placed on a terrorist watch list.

Ok, verdict's out - Why do you hate 'murica and freedom so much?

/me facepalm
tbh i think most people have or do own one of these at some point, having had 2 while i was at college (which incidentally was 2000-2002 so was wearing one when 9/11 happened) and just after, for the reasons they are cheep, reliable and when you are knocking about with your mates it dont matter if it gets lost or damaged, walk down to your favored retailer and pick another one up for £5, well they probably cost a little more now
-
Guilt by timepiece. I love it.

Being offtopic, does anyone here want the whites kicked out of Pakistan?

You've got exactly one post to explain what you mean by that before I ban you permanently from Gen Disc for racism.
No need for anyone else to respond. I'm waiting for Marcov's answer.

Well, I'm sure eating a bomb timer (which is usually attached to a bomb) will difinitely cut down on your stomach fat! ;)

I expected a heavy, negative response and I got it.
Well, for one, I don't think it was racism. We all are either browns, blacks, whites, or yellows. The mere color of a human being isn't exactly bad racism, is it?
I mean, face it. We are technically of different colors, different races, different cultures. Is mentioning it worth being banned?
For the "whites should be kicked out of Pakistan" part. Not that I literally want them kicked out - I just want to sort out those who have that sort of view. Get it? I'm not being a Nazi here.
Sorry since apparently I got beyond the Stereotype Event Horizon. Please accept my apologies. Being a bad racist was not my intent.
-

That's admitting to trolling.

This has nothing to do with the post of yours that is under discussion.

There are better ways to do that than to pose as a racist ****tard. Which is what you did.
Sorry since apparently I got beyond the Stereotype Event Horizon. Please accept my apologies. Being a bad racist was not my intent.
Speaking only for myself, the "Sorry, I'm just oblivious, I didn't MEAN to come off as a racist ****tard" excuse just doesn't fly.
-
At the risk of being flamed, I think Marcov actually may not have been trying to be a racist ****tard. Although I'll agree with anyone else who points out that he phrased it in a way that could've very easily have ended very, very, badly.
On the original topic, though, I could wear a bloody rolex and be stopped by security at the airport! I might just double bluff them and wear a Casio on both wrists. ;)
-

It was. Jesus, anyone who's lived in the real world for more than a day knows that.
-
Hmm...as apologizing doesn't seem to cool your nerves down (particularly The E), what do I do? I can't do anything. I'm in your mercy.
What exactly is your point? That my post was trollish and I just said sorry to cover it up?
I just was too blunt, and I admit I should've rephrased it in a friendlier way. There seems to be nothing more I can do than make an apology.
Again, what's your point?
It was. Jesus, anyone who's lived in the real world for more than a day knows that.
I'm playing Wiki here.
Racism is the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities which are entirely due to their race, however defined, and which consequently justify those people being treated differently, both socially and legally.
Based on this definition, is speaking one's skin color racism?
-
I get this impression Marcov was trying to make an actual point. . . IDK if anyone can clarify it a little more (seeing as it was the last relevant post)
-
Just to render my evil post a bit more politically correct, it is basically "Who here thinks that the "abusive" Caucasian Jews (or any abusive Caucasian people for that matter) should be pushed away from the premises of these terrorists' lairs (e.g. Pakistan, Afghanistan)?"
-

Me, too, but.
Based on this definition, is speaking one's skin color racism?
Yes, because bringing it up as a distinguishing factor (coming from a member of the race privileged?) would imply that you thought there were inherent differences. I think...I'm no good at this sort of stuff, but there are forum members who are. Anyway, in future buddy, be aware that as an internet forum, this place is generally inhabited by a wide range of people and as a result, staying away from all race-based kind of talk is generally a good idea.
Is the last time we had a long race debate the Sri Lankan cricket team thread?

yeah that's not really helping your cause
Is the last time we had a long race debate the Sri Lankan cricket team thread?
Nah we had a pretty good one recently.
-
My point, in particular, is that you have a lot to learn regarding posting etiquette, and behaviour on the internet.
How you came to the conclusion that the best way to find out who is racist would be to post something racist yourself and look at the responses is rather beyond me. Look up "Poe's Law". You just made an excellent example for it.
Now, there's nothing wrong with being blunt, in my opinion. I am pretty blunt myself; but the difference is that I use bluntness deliberately to remove ambiguity from statements, not to obfuscate them.
This isn't any better, since you fail to give any reasoning behind the term "abusive". It's still racist bull****, and can still be taken as such.
-

Ah okay, I appear to have missed this one.
-
Who thinks we should chain up all the negroes and put them to work in gangs?
well you're terrible people
-
Based on this definition, is speaking one's skin color racism?
Yeah, because I can think of no other reason why you would ask if people want "the whites" kicked out of Pakistan other than you believing that "the whites" somehow don't belong in Pakistani society. i.e., exclusively because of they're being white, they're incapable of being a part of Pakistani society, and must be removed. It's no better than saying "the Jews" don't belong in German society, or "the blacks" don't belong in my suburban neighborhood.
I'm literally at a loss for words here. There's no way you didn't know what you said was racist, and now you're just trying to make some lame excuses to not get banned from GD.
-

One flaw I see in this particular comment of yours is that you seem to fail to understand my true intent. You, apparently, seem to be taking that as a word from my own heart. I'm sort of playing bin Laden here.

I might have spent too much time on TVTropes these days.
Unless you want me to, I choose not to give out further explanation, because you seem to not have an open mind at the moment.
-

Corrected it for you. :p
Marcov might be gone but it's worth mentioning exactly why he's banned in case anyone is actually going to try to defend this kind of stupidity.
It doesn't matter what whites he was referring to he was being hugely racist towards someone. Even claiming he meant US soldiers is immensely disrespectful to the Hispanic, Black or Asian members of the US armed forces.
As such he's earned himself a month away from Gen Disc in order to give him some time to grow some common sense.

Not that I'm disagreeing but are Jews a race or a religion?
-
Are Jews a race or a religion?
...Removed all Marcov drivel from the quote...
A religion but the importance of blood lines does confuse the matter to some degree which is compounded by the re-establishment of Israel and it's purpose as a home land for Jewish people.
-
They are strictly a religion. The "Jews'" as is commonly reffered to as a race are the nomadic people that migrated from egypt after egypt adopted a different policy towards the immigrants. However, it was not one 'race'. It was a mish mash of different peoples.
They do have this matriärchic thing, but most of it comes from the bible, which has been written when Isreal was a part of the Babylonic Empire.
-
Pretty much like every other race, then. :nervous:

It is more like reffering to the americans as one race. That is what I meant with the different people stuff.
-

If they were even in Egypt to begin with. There's not much outside of the Bible that even indicates the Hebrews were ever in Egypt.
