Hi FSO-Fans,
I´m just working on a Fritz-X bomb (first attempt to model weapons and fighters). Look by yourself here
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/a6f9cfa51f6e6a13f12f0b82243736b84e32be885a3b9ccd4ad024d66ced611f6g.jpg)
The 2 external engines and the braketubes are on the to do list.
What do you tink?

MediaFire.
EDIT:
ok you fixed it.
Hrm. looks kinda fat.
-
Looks like something that would be mounted outside on the hull of really big bombers, i like it :D Though even shivan megafunk would be able to hit a bomb that size. give it a subspace drive and you'll be my hero ;)
-
Or maybe anti-surface, a giant nuke or such?
-
Hi fans,
this was a real bomb in 2 types used against ships and surfaces in the WWII...
...and the first one ever guided (RC 4.7 MHz short wave) conventional. The pic shows a marine version.
As Italy surendered US troups the German airforce used 2 bombs to scrapping the ISS Roma(sunk inbound of 30 minutes only) and 1 tho make the scary things on the USS Savana. That was in the year 1944.
May be i´ll do both 2 types of this Fritz-X.
@ Sara,
this thing was too good for this time but conventional.
@ Nohiki,
The first bomb of this type has flown near Mach3 during impacting the ground and armored targets(without breaktubes, with it Mach1).
First step i´ve to do:make it complete and convert it to POF. I remember a shivan corvette named as SCv IMA,
maybe this bomb can do it as that shivan corvette : tactical jumps.

Here is another pic of this Fritz-X bomb,

It´s not yet complete and not yet textured.

I can envisage this making an appearance in The_E's Free Skies project as some kind of aerial torpedo or an air-to-ground cruise missile-like weapon.
-
I´d watch a docfilm on docustream.org about the secret weapon of the third empire Germany and tried to model this really dangerous bomb. :eek2:
I also have to learn about the modelhirarchie for using in PCS2. May be i can learn from you or The_E(Das E).
Could i post that in the FSGalaxy forum for him to see?
Peter
-
I'd love to help but I'm not really a modeller (although I do occasionally try to use Blender), and as far as I'm aware The_E / Das E isn't either. He is active on these forums though, and there are several people here that could guide you in using PCS2.
If you are interested, the Free Skies mod thread is here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72062.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72062.0), and although development hasn't really started on it yet (correct me if I'm wrong, E) it could do with some modellers on the team.
Funny that you'd post something based on the Fritz-X - I was thinking of modelling something similar in the form of the "Bat" radar-guided bomb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_%28guided_bomb%29) for possible use in Free Skies.
-
Thanks for this info. What about the Fiseler Fi103 the Horten HO ix and the Salamander fighter?
Peter
-
I'll quote The_E's thoughts from that thread (I'd also recommend reading swashmebuckle's posts in the same thread as they provide some background information).
Okay, here's my plan for now.
Technology: Fighter planes can and should be taken from their real-life counterparts. Meaning you get Spitfires, Fw-190s, all the nice stuff that was available at the end of WW2. Jet planes are just starting to appear, for the moment, they are the stuff of wild rumours among pilots.
One major difference here is that physics work a bit different. In this Universe, there exists an eleme4nt that basically acts as a countergrav unit, similar to the Unobtainium that featured prominently in James Cameron's Avatar. This allows the construction of heavier-than-air Airships like the ones from Starslayer's concept art featured in the first post. For now, this element is extremely rare, so only states have access to vast quantities of it, and they use it to apply traditional naval doctrine to air combat vessels (In this universe, Pearl Harbor and WW2 never happened, so majestic Battleships are still a must for any self-respecting nation).
The more outlandish, Crimson Skies-like planes can exist as well, but I'd like to keep things simple for now.
So early pulsejet/jet-powered aircraft, like those you mentioned, could be included too.
EDIT: You might want to look at and/or post in this thread for help with setting up hierarchy in PCS2: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61476.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=61476.0)

Here is the next step: attemot to map and skin this thing,
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/fc7bdb5dca91baaffe94cf07bea1c39b97169ff38d21da5ff5a2efec2a5b18c36g.jpg)
This step shows the hull and the rear middle wing textured. I´ll do for more quality. Then i´ll skin the rest of the model.
This is the first try for FSO,but not the first ever, look THERE (http://littlevilledepot.phpbb3now.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1358)

If this were to be used as an aerial torpedo or glide bomb, I think that a camouflage scheme comprising a light sky-blue underside and grey upper surface would look quite good. Or maybe just make it plain grey all over.
EDIT: Actually, it looks OK so far as it is with the blue.
I've been looking at the Wikipedia entries for the Fritz-X and other similar bombs like the Hs 293. Interesting reading.
-
Here is a fully textured Fritz to see:
I hope i got the right colors for it. ;7
But now the learning courses are beginning ( :banghead: converting this to a working one :banghead:)
Peter
PS: The progress of the Fritz is very slow(causes of the shift work)
-
Great, soon all we'll be needing is a Heinkel He 177 Greif to mount it on, a bit like this (http://www.bandhmodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_98_15&products_id=1097). ;7
Well, either that or something equally cool.
Colours seem OK. I've only ever seen it in grey or light blue. Hope you can get it in-game.
I've been working on my fighter-bomber model for Free Skies. I'm intending it to carry a small variety of bombs and rockets (not sure if we could incorporate conventional bombs into FSO, though). The Fritz-X would be too big for it, but I'm thinking of designing a sort of large unguided anti-zeppelin/airship rocket to fit it.
-
I got the blueprints for the Horten H IX and H XVIII in my bagpack. I´m just look for the Greif He177.
Peter
-
horten ho 9? you wouldn' happen to mean the fictionnal gotha GO 229?
-
Different designations for the same aircraft. The Horten brothers designed it. Gotha was chosen as the manufacturer.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229)
The Horten H.IX, RLM designation Ho 229 (often called Gotha Go 229 due to the identity of the chosen manufacturer of the aircraft) was a late-World War II prototype fighter/bomber designed by Reimar and Walter Horten and built by Gothaer Waggonfabrik.
It wasn't fictional, it just never developed beyond the third prototype.
There was an interesting documentary on the Discovery Channel that was made about 3 years ago about its stealth capability.
-
Yes, naturally! what I meant is that it never saw combat...
-
I see, I just wasn't sure if you really had the impression that it was a fictional aircraft, or that you meant it never became operational. :)
I'd extract the Go 229 model from IL-2: 1946 but the last time I tried it with the Bf-109E I ended up with a lump of blocky mess in Blender. It might have been because I imported some unnecessary meshes. I might give it another go sometime.
EDIT: Oh and I was wrong, that documentary was made by the National Geographic Channel.

If it's of any use, I've found some model kit instructions (in PDF format) for the He 177 A-6 version on Revell's website: http://www.revell.com/support/instructions.html (http://www.revell.com/support/instructions.html) - look for stock number 80-4306. The final four pages have profile and plan views. I have no idea about how accurate they are.
Another source that might be helpful is this page on Der Adler Tag: http://www.deradlertag.info/2009/01/heinkel-he-177-greif.html (http://www.deradlertag.info/2009/01/heinkel-he-177-greif.html)
-
Thanks for the info. I got all parts for the He177 A-6 with the next missile(HS293) i ´ll model when the Fritz-X can shock the Freespace Galaxies
The site Der Adlertag is very intresting.

This Fritz-X on the screens was made on scratch but can be made via beziercurves(Blender) or Nurbscurves(Truespace)
With the other models is it also possible to do this way.
Peter
-
No problem. Also, don't feel that you have to model that particular plane just because I suggested it. There were other planes like the Ju-388 and Do-217k that could carry it, but you can model whatever you like, and given that Free Skies is an alternative history setting, we don't necessarily have to stick solely to real historical aircraft and weapons.
-
I ´m not only on a tracks of Freespace2 and FSO,i´m also modelling for Modelleisenbahn 2008 (http://wleopold.ch/n_forum/index.php) and Rule The Rail (http://littlevilledepot.phpbb3now.com/index.php).
Now i can choose for them to make a flying circus or a museum of WWII aircrafts. any aircrafts will follow same as fantasy in stile of WWII and soon coldwar aera and many prototypical as i can do.
Peter
-
That's cool. It's nice to have someone as keen and talented as yourself willing to work on FSO. :)
-
Going on the topic of missiles whatever happened to the rest of the FS2 missiles that were HTL'ed?
(Avoiding necroing that thread)
-
Hi Commander,
I´ll also look for the FS-Missiles that not HTL´ed yet. First i´ve to get this in the right format. and then i´ll continue with more of them.
The fighters/bombers and other crafts will be shown in another topic.
Peter
-
They all have an HTL model now, last I asked about them their maps were being worked on, but it's been a good while since then.
-
That IL-2 Go 229 I created a Skin Template several years ago and made plenty of skins for it as well. I put the template along with many of my other templates up for the community to use. I later found out someone used one of my skins in some sort of add-on that you pay for WITHOUT my permission as it's stated in my templates and skins. After that, I stopped uploading my templates and kept them to myself.
It was fun creating them and giving them out to others for them to create some nice skins. :) Good luck on your model.

Hi to all,
I got this missile into the PCS2,
(http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/e65ebbe185e1523c7a36a882e7c08682c4652fa0c69e5005052f2cdf8f848c036g.jpg)
and

looks not bad....but i want to save it to pof it crashes back to windows.
Did i do anything wrong?
