Post by: vonhertell999 on May 07, 2011, 06:08:50 pm
hello, im trying to start table editing and i figured a good start would be adding show ships to the table of the GTF ulysses. well i cant. i downloaded vpview32 and opened root_fs2 and then ships.tbl. vpview forced me to used tblview32, which wont allow me to edit the table just look at it  :hopping: then i tried looking for any way to open it with notepad, no luck. i tried exporting it to desktop, there i can open it with notepad but i have no way to import it back to root_fs2, where it could be useful  :mad2:

You can change the tables the same way you can add music, but instead of placing the .tbl/.tbm in [mod]/data/music/, place it in [mod]/data/tables/. The 'new' tables will be loaded with the mod, taking precedence over the ones in the root fs2 directory.

http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ships_and_General_Mod_Creation

the only difference here is to use VPview32 to extract the ships.tbl

once you have done that use a text editor to edit the table

IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED THAT .VP FILES ARE NOT EDITED IN ANY WAY!
So yeah. Please do not try to alter your .vp files. Instead, as suggested, use your very own mod folder. To that mod folder, create a "data" folder and under that, subfolders that are required for your task. In this case, a "tables" folder. Thank you.

thankyou very much, your suggestions worked very well, and i got most fighters with working cockpits, as well as finding the problematic evil ones like the pegusus and ares.
