I was digging through some old files and found a model and texture for the space battleship yamato. It was made by a guy on the hw2 forums a ling while back. Any one want to take a stab at it?
-
Getter Robo G had one version a while back.

I didn't know that. This one is made by akt_m. He gave permission for use a long time ago and then nobody has heard from him since. figured i'd throw it out there if people wanted it.
EDIT: Here's the link. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P0LGJ023

Like every Getter Robo G had, it was probably lost in a series of unfortunate harddrive crashes.
Not like we would have ever seen it anyway. :P
-
Would be nice if it wasn't in those formats, and more like OBJ or 3DS... but I'm sure Deep Exploration can open anything...

Oh c'mon, cut the man some slack.
Anyway, I think I had the version Water sent getter some few years ago but I don't think I have it, I'll look though.

Wooden decking... on a space ship...
...That's almost as rediculous as card games on motorcycles!

Take your realism back to x-plane! We don't need it here! :hopping:
-
X-Plane isn't quite as realistic as they advertise it to be. :P
-
And I don't think there's anything realistic about a battleship converted for space travel....i think.
-
A battleship converted for space travel that is essentially powered by the soul of it's long dead WWII counterpart. Can't leave that out.
-
Free Skies could probably use it. Just DL'd it, thanks for posting about it.
-
Hey no problem. Any chance i'd get a sneak peek at it if you get it ingame?
-
Oh... :blah: I don't have Maya.... :nervous:
But, assuming that I can find a way to open the files and get myself into modelling again, then yeah, of course.
Maybe Messiah Studio can help.
-
I think blender can import it. What format do you need? I should be able to find a converter.
EDIT: I can convert the model to OBJ format. but u'd have to redo the textures i think....not sure tho. Let me know if you want it.
-
It's probably quite small compared to even Freespace fighters. :nervous:
-
I think I've found another source for this particular model here (http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/477584) which also has a couple of pics.

Having done a little more searching, I think I've found some more pics of Getter Robo G's version. Seems some people were interested in using it in Starshatter for a Starblazers mod:

I'll try to do some more searching for his version of the model.

I think OBJ would do, so yes please that would be great. Can't promise getting it in-game soon though, that's something I'll need to learn about.
-
Thats fine. The version u found on turbosquid is actually the one i posted if i remember right. At least thats where i got the maya files. The HW files were on my hard-drive. I'll post the obj's tonite after work.

Who do I have a feeling that would hit the cap of maximum rotating subsystems (50, aka 25 multiparts)?
-
I've found another model here, in OBJ format: http://www.royloo.com/free.php (http://www.royloo.com/free.php) - the link is just under the image that's in the 4th column along and the 12th row down.
It's lower-poly (12,198 faces; the HW2 one has 26,000) and has some textures that look somewhat low-resolution to me.

(There's also a mostly white texture labelled "Yamato_alpha" that I've omitted).
Not sure about how to get the textures to appear on the model. I think I have to somehow edit the OBJ file so that it references them.

Hmm. Didn't know about that.
-
Great now we just need the Arcadia from Captain Harlock, and the SDF-1 and we can have a throw down.
-
Only if the SDF-1 does not come equipped with any Japanese pop idols. Seriously, the less of that in our epic space battle the better.
-
The Cosmo Zero fighter is included in the package skygunner linked to (just pointing that out if it wasn't apparent from that screenshot in my earlier post; the package includes two models).
Now that I think about it, I wonder if the 26,000 polygon value of akt_m's package includes the polygon count of the fighter.
The royloo site I linked to has some Macross stuff towards the top of the page. And some other stuff I'm not sure I want to check out.
-
Well, I'm not sure. the fighter is pretty low poly as far as i remember. though i would love to see a match between the SDF-1, Yamato, Arcadia, and the Delphinus from Skies of Arcadia.
-
Yeah it certainly doesn't look like it would contribute much to the overall polycount.
akt_m's Yamato is the nicer looking one but, according to the wiki, it has about 2,000 more polys (assuming that that figure of 26,000 polys applies just to the ship itself) than what a juggernaut-type ship would be expected to have (24k polys, but they can have more). royloo's one is closer to a cruiser/freighter in terms of polys, according to the guide in the wiki.
The limit on the number of rotating subsystems is a bit of a downer; I take it that it means we can't have all those turrets rotating? I thought turrets were a separate class to subsystems (*waves noob flag*). I have visions of this thing trying to shoot down scores of planes attacking from multiple directions with its AAA batteries. Changing some of them to static single-part turrets would avoid hitting the limit, right? Except that would mean we'd lose the coolness factor of rotating turrets somewhat (I'm not really keen on single-part turrets but anyway I don't want to whine too much about it, they're probably a necessary compromise in this engine).

I haven’t posted for a very long time but I still check out HLP from time to time. I work in Maya and looked at akt_m’s model, it has a lot of intersecting meshes and would take a lot of work to cleanup.

What up.

General,
Until last November I’ve been working in the video game industry. I’ve got time on my hands while I’m looking for a new job so I install FS2, FSO, and PCS2 and started doing some modding.

Awesome. Stick around, you've missed a lot of great stuff.
