Title: Need help finding this product - someone help! :)
Post by: Stealth on May 10, 2011, 02:46:00 pm
Here's the deal - i need to find something that i know exists, just don't know where/how to find it.

Most aftermarket car stereo systems have a head unit (the thing that controls volume, that you put a CD into, etc), and then that head unit has a built in amplifier for speakers.  Some aftermarket systems use a  seperate amp.

What i'm looking for is something that connects to speakers (powers them too), but doesn't havea  head unit with FM, CD, etc... it's just a box with a 3.5mm auxiliary input.

I've seen that kind of thing before for ATVs, four wheelers, etc...

Whoever helps me find the one i need i will paypal $50

Thanks!

So you are after a stand alone amp?  the 80s/90s era Ford Orion I owned once had one, though it did have a few dials to adjust bias and the likes, cars of the era might be a good place to start.

some years ago i was looking for one of these, i was trying to turn an old computer into an mpxplay jukebox. i wanted to make everything fit into one case and i wanted to use full range speakers instead of computer speakers. so i though about getting such a unit and running it off the computers 12v rails, to amplify the output from the sound blaster and pump it out to the speakers. of course i found a small pa amplifier at a government surplus sale that ran off of a 12v adapter and used that instead. or course i ended up scraping the whole project when i moved out of juneau.

well there are head units that have auxiliary inputs to plug in mp3 players, ipods, etc, and also have FM/AM radio tuners, CD players, etc.  I'm looking for something that's JUST the ipod hookup, with like an on/off button and volume control - that's it.

yes, just like that, but one that's actually available =(
also preferably one that isn't designed to run off AC current - need it to be 12v native

Sounds like - http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-DTA-1-Digital-Amplifier/dp/B001PNOH2I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1305072353&sr=1-1

It says AC/DC... but it probably is a matter of changing the adapter.
