While I actually agree with uniforms in schools (and a variety of professions, mine included), I do look forward to the advance of younger generations into managerial and policy-setting positions for this very reason. Today's young people largely recognize that the clothes a person wears do not reflect that individual's ability to perform. Dress codes need to reflect this, and lose the uptight attitude in favour of practical considerations. It is possible to look professional AND be comfortable.
I envy Google employees.

I think you have misunderstood the article, the boy's action isn't an anti uniform but protesting the fact that boys have to wear trousers year round (except I presume except for P.E.) and girls have the option to wear skirts

No, I understood it quite well:
Dress codes need to reflect this, and lose the uptight attitude in favour of practical considerations.
To spell it out, shorts have long been viewed as "lesser dress" than long pants. They are not included in many dress codes as a result. This is silly.
