Title: adding messages to a mission

if theres anything that confused me in fred, besides sexps, its messages, can someone walk me through on how i would put messages on screen, and everything else i need, such as the animation?

send-message sexp combined with the message editor on the right side of the events editor

This is explained rather well in the FRED walkthrough, which you should do.
