The old Lybia thread has dropped off the first page of Gen Disc so starting a new one

The ICC is seeking an arrest warrant for Gaddafi. I can almost hear the US stealth blackhawks spinning up now.

Psst, F-117s are retired. They'd probably do a high-altitude B-2 bunker buster carpet bomb, or nuclear bunker busters. Or maybe the F-117s are being secretly upgraded and stored, like the RAH-66.

Moot point, though. The United States doesn't serve warrants for the ICC, since it does not recognize the court's authority.

As an honest question on this issue (since I'm a bit ignorant of it), what does this actually mean? Is there going to be some kind of task-force formed out of the EU to grab Gaddafi now or does this just mean if someone stumbles upon Gaddafi during their drunken haze that they can now take him to the ICC instead of just beating him up? Well, if the warrants are approved.

Looks like I got a little too excited to begin with. Reading though its kind of like when Interpol issues an arrest warrant, ultimately it comes down to local security forces to actually arrest the guy and then turn them over.
The UN has already deferred to the ICC Mr Moreno-Ocampo said he was acting in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1970, which referred the situation in Libya to the ICC, and stressed the need to hold to account those responsible for attacks on civilians.
so unless something goes bad aside from a human rights report coming up there is unlikely to be further action on this aspect.

I thought we weren't trying to kill Gaddafi though? I think that breaks NATO/UN rules and all that.

Yeah, we're only targeting his grand children.

no we aren't trying to kill Gaddafi because the UN resolution dose not authorize killing him, it authorized doing "anything" to protect civilians, which is what we are doing, if killing Gaddafi protects civilians then that is just a funny coincidence.
