Wikipedia trivia: if you take any article, click on the first link in the article text not in parentheses or italics, and then repeat, you will eventually end up at "Philosophy"
-
Someone reads too much xkcd.
-
Starting with the random article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schaghticoke_(village),_New_York it took 16 links to get there (Including the link to philosophy)
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_Waugh
20 links to the philosophy page, 17 links to reach directly related (to philosophy) subjects.
-
That's great! Best part, the first link starting from "Philosophy" (rational argument) will itself lead back to philosophy.

You'll probably end up at Star Wars faster though. :p

Someone reads too much xkcd.
Beat me up to it
-
Someone reads too much xkcd.
I have a friend that reads too much xkcd that linked that to facebook. :)
-
12 clicks from Murray Walker (including philosophy). Although the one before "Philosophy" was "German Philosophy". :p
-
That is really weird :nervous:
I want to know who figured that out in the first place!
-
Start at letter (alphabet) and it just seems to infinite loop.
Did I beat the system?
ed: no never mind, i broke the rules i think
ed: yes i did
-
Twenty four jumps from "Ironwood Pig Sanctuary" thats um, pretty hilarious.
-
Step 1: Start at a random wikipedia page
Step 2: See how many pages it takes to get to hitler/nazi
Lowest number of clickthroughs wins!
-
23 jumps away from "Freespace 2 Source Code Project". :p

I win. No links in article.
**** YEAH I BEAT THE SYSTEM.
Only links are external links!
I assume someone is now going to edit links into that article. But oh well.

Those count? The hunt continues then.

It's kind of spooky, actually, I tried a good half-dozen articles from the "Random" button. They all worked.

Tried starting from Rome - This eventually puts you into an endless loop, without ever ending up at philosophy.
-
I remember this was posted on 4chan. It was quickly learned that the vast majority of paths end with science --> knowledge --> philosophy or something like that, so somebody edited the page for knowledge to loop back to science and thus everyone started going LOL IT DOESNT WORK.
Appears that knowledge links to fact now, but it still ends up at philosophy in the end. :(
-
I've tried that in an article about Daleks, which eventually puts me in a loop (unless I'm not noticing something).

Actually, this one DOES beat the system, you just get into a loop starting with "state"
-
But...state doesn't loop, it ends up at philosophy.

Dalek also doesn't loop, it ends up at philosophy. Remember, you have to use the first link that is NOT in parentheses, NOT in italics.

Same here, this doesn't loop, it goes to philosophy.
-
Yeah I did Daleks to Philosophy successfully, you can actually start to see the pattern after a while.
-
Indeed, I've just started quitting once I hit certain pages that I know go to philosophy.
-

Yeah, I've somehow mixed up parentheses and quotation marks.
-
huh, wonder if this works for other languages...
Tried starting from Rome - This eventually puts you into an endless loop, without ever ending up at philosophy.
You sure you did it right?
-
You know, you can beat the system just by editing Property (Philosophy) to read
In mathematics, modern philosophy and logic,...
instead of
In modern philosophy, mathematics and logic,
Thus creating and endless loop through Mathematics...
And it doesn't change anything meaning-wise...

You sure you did it right?
Just tried it again, and ended up at philosophy :p First try I must have overlooked a paranthesis or something.

The first link is an external link. You don't count externals.
It's 30 clicks, though.
-
Not if you click the 'help' link. :P Or does that not count?
Apparently it doesn't always work for chinese... ah well.

The help link is in parentheses. It doesn't count.

starting with the FS article I got to a loop containing "Mathematics". Just a sec, I'll map it out :P
[EDIT] oops at about the 8th article I clicked the 2nd link instead of the first... the "Mathematics" loop definitely exists though.
[EDIT2] It just disappeared lol... the "magnitude" page (used to be part of "math" > "quantity" > "magnitude" > "math") now is like 2 links away from philosophy. FUUUU
[EDIT3] the "philosophy" page itself is part of a cycle of length 8
