:D :D :D :D :D
The whole theatre erupted into shouts when...well, you'll see!
-
"shouts" could mean anything. Good shouts or angry shouts?
-
They were good shouts. And then later, at the end of the "well, you'll see" they all laughed. At least in my theater. [grin]
--TurboNed
EDIT: Just for clarification - it was a good laughter. [grin again]
EDIT AGAIN: Oh, yeah, I also wanted to put in the following score for the movie:
:D :D :D :D :D out of 5 (quality of film)
:jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: out of 5 (awe factor)
-
:D:jaw::eek: :D
This movie was UN****INGBELIEVABLE!!! So about my language. :D But this movie is gonna be a classic, for that one part where we all cheered also! This movie is incredible and makes Episode 1 better. Its on par with the original trilogy, trust me. I love it!
-
I'll stay calm... it comes out tomorrow... I can hold on for 24 hours... yes.... yes....yes...
-
Anyone who says they like this one should qualify that opinion by also saying what they thought of Phantom Menace.
Seriously.
-
Well, I liked The Phantom Menace. :D Ok, it was a bit too goody goody and childish. But wasn't that the point? Yup I liked Episode 1, and I LOVE Episode 2! :D
-
:) I just got back home from seeing it. hehe
I guess the shout was when Yoda, Lightsaber in hand, assumed position and gave that
" F u c k y o u u p, I w i l l ..." look. (http://cazzoo.free.fr/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_fight09.gif) :D
BTW that's NOT what he says. :D hehe

Yep! Theat will go along as a Star Wars classic. Plenty of everything, Great animation, (I recognised MAYA, some Lightwave and soft image). but the end left me a little... "what? That's it?" Kinda feel.
CougEr

Dude, I suggest always warn before giving out any spoilers or use the black font. So that people who heaven't seen it yet can be suprised, like I was! ;)
-
Indeed, saw it this morning and it's certainly going to be an epic film. Every second of it was 100% good film. Lucas did good this time.
-
Oh. My. God.
Second only to Empire Strikes Back, Although so far it's been voted most popular (http://starwars.com/swtoday/). I was going to go in again, but the guys held me back. We'll see it again next week. For now, Rogue Leader beckons.
w00t Star Wars! Yoda 0wNz j00 (or is it Jango w0t 0wNz j00? They're both majorly 133+)
I like Star Wars.
-
Damn... I can't believe so many critics actually gave it such poor reviews. Thats so funny too, cause what I've heard, the majority of the PEOPLE think it rather kicks ass.
I can't help but just think that the critics somehow overlooked it in some way. Did they expect somesort of über emotional, selfdiscovery, soulsearching movie that will win all the years oscars? hmpf. Funny too, cause when Star Wars (1977) came out the critics hated that too, but the people loved it. :D
-
NOTE: There are some minor spoilers here but they are fairly general...skip if you wish. :D
I liked it. Very good; far superior to Phantom Menace. The start was good though it then flagged a little; however it kicked off again soon enough on Kamino and Tatooine... :)
The battles were awe-inspiring and some of the ships were awesome :jaw: - Republic ginship = I WANT ONE. In addition, you can see all the threads starting to come together and Dooku is a much better enemy than Maul ever was...
===
Now. Criticisms.
There are a few dodgy lines...but that is to be expected. It's Star Wars... :p - in addition, it suffered from the same "let's make really short scenes" thing that the Phantom Menace did. This meant that sometimes they felt underdevolped and there was too much jumping around. This was mostly at the beginning. Characterisation got better as the film went on.
Also, does anyone agree with me that though the effects are great, they're a little soulless-looking - the old films' effects felt like they had more 'love' put in.
Mind you, I'm comparing it against the original trilogy which I grew up with and haven't watched in a while - so maybe I'm being overly harsh. :D
-
Trilogy ships were all old and beaten so looked like they'd been in space fighting the good fight, but new trilogy ships are all sparkly and shiny. And you have to take into account, when you have a fleet of the same class ships, they either all look sparkly and new or they all have exactly the same damage, wear and tear and look really fake.
-
I also kinda meant that people had made them with their own hands, blah blah blah. Not that I'm a fan of that kind of stuff - I love CG because it makes effects easier and more realistic. Besides, otherwise I would be doing carpentry not FS2. :D
Besides, the original trilogy look better CG enhanced, of course. And there are less bad haircuts in the new ones than the old. :p

Yeah, thats actually quite right. Never actually thought about it, but there did seem to be a lot of jumping around, from scene to scene not giving any of them enough screen time. But just might be because when the first trilogy was made, there was a tiht budget, so alot more was happening on fewer sets, hence fewer scene changes. But with the now limitles possibilites of CGI and unlimited budget, it calls for more options. However, usually someone would sellect the options he would want to do instead of doing the whole list of them. :D But anyway, it's still a good and solid movie, on par with the originals. Another theory about the "short scene syndrome" might be the fact that some of them are so damn cool, that we want them to go on futher, but if that were so, it would get boring, fast. :D Oh well, got my tickets for another viewing. :D

Did anyone else think that, after seeing Yoda doing his stuff, he should be prevented from touching water or eating after midnight?
And did anyone else notice the similarities between Watoo and, uhm.... Arafat?

Worst. Line. EV4R: Master Windu: "This party's over."
I've noticed that with the effects - things are too clean. Wonder if that's just the result of using CGI, or is it on purpose to show what things were like before the Galactic Empire.
Also, was anyone reminded of *SPOILER ALERT* Starship Trropers when all those clones were fighting for the good side? :D
And that Yoda scene - dang, the framerate in the theater wasn't high enough! :p
-
If I were going to watch SW, it would solely be for the Yoda scene. It's supposed to be an improvement on Episode 1, but that's not saying much and George Lucas is, quite frankly, one of the most overrated directors ever. I've seen better directing out of small children.

What I also want to see is Yoda...and the entire freikin movie! Gah. I wont see it until tomorrow at the earliest. It's just not fair...:(

It is too fair, ever heard of survival of the fittest?

It wasnt anything super special, it looked like an incom design but www.starwars.com says it was made by kuat, anyway that hyperdrive sled rocked, we need to find that model in cob or 3ds format!!

DON'T start on it.
You did know that this was the worst possible time to say that? Or did you do it for the fun of it?
-
Well, I gave it a
5 grins /5
and a
4 jaw drops /4 (had to edit out the smilies as the image limiter thingy wouldn't let me post it)
above. And just 'cause someone was asking, I'll now post my review of TPM (as viewed in theaters, not as viewed in the enhanced DVD - which improved the movie in minor ways).
Technically: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: :jaw: /5
Coolness factor: :D :D :D /5
TPM was made at a time when CGI wasn't QUITE good enough to pull off organic "people" convincingly, and as such Jar Jar, Boss Nass, Captain Tarpals, and the other Gungans suffered for it (though not much). The battle droids, however, looked fantastic.
Darth Maul was SERIOUSLY overhyped. He had the potential to be an AWESOME character (in fact, he IS an awesome character, read Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter...it's fantastic), but through mis- and under-use, he turned into a device for killing Qui-Gon and saberfodder for Obi-Wan. And a little niggle...after all that lightning-fast saber fighting against two people, he just stands there while Obi-Wan jumps over him, lands on the other side, activates his lightsaber, and slashes him through? I'm sorry - Lucas needed to come up with a better way to have him die. He knew something was up (watch his face), but still he just stood there.
Jar-Jar - VERY EXTREMELY HIGHLY UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLY UTTERLY (insert some more adverbs here, please, I've run out) annoying. 'Nuff said.
Jake Lloyd - bad actor. I've seen worse, but I've seen WAY better too...they could've done far better.
Movie's Ending: poorly done - who sticks a ship's main reactor in the hanger? Why did it take Anakin (supposedly this hotshot pilot) 3 tries to find the trigger on the Naboo Starfighter? Doesn't everyone know that it's the joystick's trigger that fires weapons, not the button labeled "starter"?
Anyway, there were some high points to that movie (I loved Liam Niesson (sp?) as Qui-Gon). And there were some low points to that movie (see above several paragraphs). It certainly wasn't Lucas' best....but at least it wasn't Teddy Bears beating up the incredibly precise, ruthless, and feared stormtroopers.

I was grinning all the way thought it, its brilliant!
-
I have to wait all the time untill the 22th to see the movie here on avarage Norwegian theaters. Now THAT is unfair!
But when it comes, I will be sure to be there at the opening.
But I can take the wait... I think....

I'm seeing it TOMORROW (18th may) :D YESSS!!!!

Looks like just about everyone is seeing it; I wonder how much money Lucasarts have made off this so far... :D

Very different. Lucasfilm make the films, Lucasarts publish the games(since now in their wisdom, they let genre experts make the actual games, a very good idea). AOTC is an massive improvement upon TPM(which was still a good movie by todays standards, but it was for the younger members of the family).
-
Well, with reviews like this coming from people I know and trust, I'm actually looking forward to AOTC.
A word about Jar Jar in TPM: He was there for 'comic relief' because all the other characters were somewhat wooden. I think the intended comedy should have been spread around the film, instead of being concentrated in one wretched character. Many funny bits and pieces (Han running into the room of stormtroopers, R2 and 3PO's chatter, the Ewok on the speeder bike) are much better than a bumbling idiot sidekick.
-
Jar Jar Blinks is one of the most loved people in TPM, all the kids love him. Also JJB was never a sidekick, he was just around as funny individual.

key word "kids" :p
-
Sadly true, but be that as it may - They could've done some good scenes with him. It's perfectly possible to insert adult humor into a charachter made for children. Hell even the kids cartoon "Count Duckula" manages it (I'm 17 and I'm getting the adult jokes now, it's a great program). Anyways - Ja Ja was more or less relient on being clumsy. Thats not humor - that's old, little children might laugh but they could've done one better and had him say some genuinely funny lines that the older audience would've enjoyed.
-
It is true that Jar Jar could have been better in TPM, but I can't help but just get a bit angry at this whole "anti-Jar Jar" thing. I sometimes get the feeling that people just say Jar Jar sucks, cause its the "cool" thing to do, instead of actually supporting why they hate him so much. Like this Jar Jar hate pages... What do they really accomplish? They only manage to spread the word that something that is a TRUE part of Star Wars stinks, and everyone should hate it,cause if they don't, they don't have a life. I'm not saying EVERYONE hates Jar Jar cause its the "cool" thing to do, but I think that it could be a substantial part in the lower appreciation of TPM. Yes, he was a severly underdeveloped character, who's sole purpose seemed to be the comic relief for the entire movie. But this is no reason to actually HATE him. Its a character. You can't hate something that isn't real. And I really think, if some of those hate pages hadn't gone up, there'd be ALOT less people actually hating him and the TPM in general. I'm just mainly talking about the people who never give an actual reason for hating him, and those who think its cool to make hate pages and digitally alter war execution pictures in order to show it... Not to mention the "Phantom Edit" Come on man... Thats just lame  I could just as well do my own edits on the older trilogy and cut out all the scenes with the ewoks! Make it look as so that the first time you actually see them, is when they attack, making them look like just a bunch of suicidal killer teddy bears. :D Or maybe just cut everything that happened on endor out, and make it look like the insertion team succeeded without a hitch.
I dunno... I guess I'm still grumpy at the critics and some of my friends who first went to see it, said it was cool, but then after reading the critics, chaged their mind and said it sucked, in fear probably that if they said they liked it, they maybe considered as geeks or something.
-

Heh, the peeps I hang out with are the critical, self-opinion obsessed people so they all just believe what they do :D
But, I have seen this anti-JarJar stupidity everywhere... It really annoys me. I even watched the TPM a few days ago again just to see if what the idiots keep saying (TPM sucks, Jarjar sucks etc.) was true.... I thought TPM was quite nice... (Duel of the Fates by John Williams is awesome)

See it, if just for Natalie Portman ;7
First time ive used that smilie, quite fitting too.
On the whole a good film. Not the best film, i prefer something a bit more mentally chalenging, but still great entertainment, and thats what star wars was always about. For all you anit Jar-Jar fans out there, he isnt in it much so dont worry. The whole star wars world seems to make a lot more sense now. You begin to see what turns Anakin to the dark side, he's quite rebelious for a jedi, and also where things like the empire emerge from. The clone army appears to be the storm troopers of the later films, its gonna be intresting to see how they switch 'teams'.
Special effects were nice, i didnt actaully realise Yoda was computer animated, but then again i wasnt really looking.
I did however notice it jumped about a lot, and that was somewhat anoying.
Overall:
Worth seeing, entertaining.

Uhhh, spoilers here. Highlight to read.
Uhhhh, they don't switch teams. The teams kinda switch around them. You do realize that "Supreme Chancellor Palpatine" will later be knows as "Emperor Palpatine" and the Republic will later change its name to the Galactic Empire. Didn't you notice the cute little logo on Obi-Wan's ship? It's the symbol of the Galactic Empire that we all know and love...the transition is already happening. The troopers won't switch teams, it's just that in a few years people will realize that the government has become immensely corrupt and a time for change has come. Hence, the Rebellion.

I hate him so much.... lol, its not the cool thing to do around here. In fact, most of my friends (who aren't real avid fans) liked him *shudder*. Lucas pulled such a publicity stunt with him... I felt so betrayed, but I guess Lucas likes to make mucho dinero off of action figures and younger audiances as much as the next guy. Jar Jar is basically comic relief for the kids and the not so avid fans. Hes also Banthafodder to the avid fans who think his head should be blasted off...
I'm sorry, but trip and fall down funny just... isnt very funny. Its especially not funny in a Star Wars film.
-
Mmm... You know, you go watch the old movies again... kinda puts Jar Jar in perspective. Whatsisname... actor playing Luke Skywalker... WHAT a NEBBISH! Eeugh... the movies would be great if he wasn't WHINING all the time... forget irritating minor characters, if the lead role makes you want to throw someting at the TV...
-
Hey, that's a classic line!
But I wanted to go to Toschi Station to pick up some power converterrrrrs!
:D
My opinion? Yoda just became the coolest character in Star Wars ever
Spoiler-type thingy:
BTW, did anyone notice a similarity between one of the monsters in the execution and the Lurker from Starcraft?
-
think back on all the heroes and heroic acts in all 5 movies. Which character comes out as the greatest of them all?
Hint: none of the Skywalker clan, not the beauty with the bounty on her, um, head, not Obi-Wan. Definately not Goldenrod. Nope, the greatest hero of all the Star Wars movies is...
R2-D2
(Highlight to see who)
-
And the greatest villian? The one without whom none of it would've happened...
Ja Ja Binks!
-
As for what Turboned said (i wont repeat it here its a bit of a spoiler...)
The ships at the end the clones get onto do look amazingly like the star destroyers of the later films, so i suppose u must be right.
And you can tell the guy who got ellected chancelor in Ep. 1 was a bit evil, confirmed in episode 2.

-
Do you think that in Episode III, we'll see the clone troopers become the storm troopers? I mean, as in changing their armor to the one we all know and love! Though I do have to say that the armor they have in EpII is really sweet and alot more scarier and efficient looking than the Stormtroopers. :D

Ever hear of a thing called "character development"? You know, where they display the "whimpiness" of the soon-to-be hero of a movie/book, so as to emphasize the change in him/her?
Whiny Luke -> Jedi wise beyond his years
Tough "I don't care about nobody" Han -> Couldn't leave the Rebels to fight alone Han
Arch-villian Vader -> Overthrow (pun intended) the Emperor Anakin
See the point here? And with Eps. I & II, you could list:
Annoyingly sweet/cute Anakin -> rebellious "My way" Anakin
Diplomatic huff-huff Amidala -> Lover of a rebellious Jedi Padme
And best of all:
Old crippled Yoda -> uhm.... I won't spoil it for those who still haven't seen it... ;)
-
just saw the movie, and boy, have I got a lot to say!!! The movie was GREEATT!!! Beats ROTJ in my opinion, not to mention TPM. The following is in black text.
Pros, IMHO:
It had a story. I mean a REAL story. Not the ROTJ/TPM like story, but a real story that made you think.
Yoda. Nuff said
Master Windu. He was cool
Master Kenobi. He was cool
Anakin. He was just the way he had to be.
Amidala. :jaw:
They played the Imperial March three times. THREE TIMES!!!
no more silly puns.
And some people here have suggested, that C-3PO was too silly. I think he wasn't any sillier, than in ESB, for example. Palpatine was good as always, I just love Ian McDarmid, he can really play into the role, and the actionscenes were A1-SUPAR
Cons:
One think Lucas still hasn't recreated is a cool villain. Darth Maul could have been one, but he had too little screen time and text. plus they killed him off at the end. Palplatine has always been close, but not there, and Count Dooku was just another bald man who had a lightsaber and cool force powers.
John Williams was lazy this time. only 1 new theme, puh-leaase, he can do better than that.
the aliens who cloned the clone army. They just looked wrong.
I could go on and on about the movie.... man I liked it.

In Episode 2: Spoiler - Highlight to read: He gives Palpatine power to enforce the drioid army. These emergency powers will no doubt be used for evil later on, it also makes him virtually un-touchable since he's got the emergency powers. Nobody can question his authority now and it makes it all the more east to hide what's going on.
So it's all Ja Jas fault!

Yes, but had not the Emperor gotten the emergency power, the jedi would have been wiped out on Geonosis, which in turn would have made someone else in the senate give Palpatine emergency power, which would have made no difference, other than Anakin, and Obi-Wan and Yoda being killed. And thats something.

Imbecile Jar-Har -> Jar Jar as an aid in advancing the plot.
Can be argued for anything. Having a character that grated on the nerves woulda been fine, had there been any explanation or good reason for it. But listening to him act like a 12-year-old while chasing after evil white guys on flying explosive motorcycles with guns through a giant forest is a bit much. He doesn't really change, there's no reason for him to be a whiner, and it doesn't really flesh out his character- it gives him two dimensions, rather than one. He's still a flat character.

Jar Jar for some reason always reminds me of Vir Cotto(Babylon 5).
-
Really? Those sorts of characters always make me think of sharp, heavy implements... If I want pandering mindless passive entertainment, I want it to be GOOD pandering mindless passive entertainment, with appropriately pandering, mindless characters who don't betray how pandering and mindless they really are until I think about it!

Well my opinion on the scheme of things Star Wars:
1. A New Hope
2. Attack of the Clones
3. Empire Strikes Back/The Phantom Menace
4. Return of the Jedi
Clones was great, Dooku I liked because Christopher Lee is a bad ass (just like the guy who plays Tarkin).
The romance dialogue wasn't too chesy when compared to the other films, Jar Jar had a minor part of the plot, and there's a good balance between action and "little kid stuff" as well as good pacing for the way the scenes are intended.
Now I've never understood the whole Bobba Fett thing, but I thought that the whole Jango Fett deal was worked out pretty well. When against Samuel L. Jackson you loose, no matter how cool some acne ridden fans who dream of Natalie Portman's belly-button like the guy... ;)
BTW, Liberator you're right on the great hero of Star Wars ;) He's the wisest of them all...

yes. AOTC is a great movie. Absolutely amazing. I walked out of the cinema, and I looked like a ghost. There isn't a scene which isn't good. Fantastic. The last one just captured me. It resume the SW spirit. And with 400 people in the cinema who started singing the Imperial March. WOW! :jaw: I can get out of my mind that scene...
1. ESB
2. ANH
3. AOTC
4. ROTJ
5. Ep I
Long Live the Emperor!

I just saw this movie the other day, and it rocked! One of the greatest SW movies yet, possibly better than ESB! It just...had the right stuff. The ships, the planet scenes, the action all seemed to go back to the roots of the original trilogy versus the "Let's go podracing! Whee!" attitude of TPM. As for the downside...
Another cheap death for a Fett. The Fetts are my favorite characters of the Star Wars saga, and are arguably the coolest bunch around. Why Lucas?! Boba's fate in the Sarlacc was degrading enough, but having Jango's head loped off by Windu?! I don't know...it just didn't seem...fitting for such a badass character. Guess I'm just a ranting Fett fanboy angered by Jango's demise. ^_^;;

SPOILER ALERT!
So, what do you all think will come of that "unaltered" clone Jango had made of himself - the one that wasn't put through accelerated growth? Bobba, anyone? ;7

Is there a problem with Windu??? He's was one of the coolest characters in the show.

Another cheap death for a Fett. The Fetts are my favorite characters of the Star Wars saga, and are arguably the coolest bunch around. Why Lucas?! BOBA FETT IS NOT DEAD, HE ESCAPED FROM THE SARLACC!!!! Damn the amount of times i have to tell people.
Jango Fett death wasnt cheap, it was always going to happen, cos it'll shape Boba

The only part where most of the cinema laughed is the bit where Anakins having a nightmare - it looks abit like he's might be doing something else ;7

Why would you dream about Natalie Portman's belly button?
And yes, Samuel L Jackson is god.

All part of the storyline - other major hints at this included the stormtrooper resemblance in the clone army and the suprising likeness to Star Destroyers of the Republic ships.

Did I say boba died in the Sarlacc? :D Of course I knew he survived. As for Jango's death...I honestly think they could've found a better way to kill him off. Though I am praying that Boba gets his revenge in the next movie. :D And yeah, Mace Windu is cool...I just like the Fetts more. :D

Hey, I just got a crazy neat idea for all us Fett fans out there...
We all know that Mace Windu will die in the next movie along with all the other Jedi. And its still not sure how he will die, but most seem to think by the hand of Vader... But what if Boba killed him instead?! See, maybe in the 3rd episode Vader employs Boba's talents for his Jedi extermination, using Boba's hatred for the Jedi?! That would be pritty damn cool, that Boba Fett finally gets his revenge in full. Mace could counter his fathers blaster shots, but Boba, fueled by hatred and training to be better than his father, is too fast for Mace and kills him instead! And for maybe an added twist using his fathers blaster OR Maces own lightsaber! :D
A guy can wish can't he?
Oh and yes, more toons on the way. Just been on a small hayetus to get some fresh ideas into my head and work on my pencil drawings. (Gonna try and make it as a comic penciler)

This is far from a new idea. Ever since we Fett fans witnessed Jango's death, we've all been filled with dreams and hopes that Boba Fett can avenge his father's death. I certainly hope he gets the chance.

Natalie Portman looks absolutely HOT! ;7 A lot better than in Episode 1.
What a doll!

The ships at the end the clones get onto do look amazingly like the star destroyers of the later films, so i suppose u must be right.
They are indeed Star Destroyers... of a kind
I heard someone mention (think it was here...) that they were Victory class Star Destroyers.
This is not true.
Those used here were the oldest type of Star Destroyers (that we know of), which had been long replaced by Victory and later Imperial Class Star Destroyers by the time 'A New Hope' arrived.

wow, this must have cool... Now if they al would have stood up like with a national anthem....! :D
I went to see it today.... Man, most viewers probably never saw the original trilogy. Nobody recognised the Imperial March :(
As for Binks.... be glad he did gave Palpatine Emergency Powers. It saved Ani and Amidala (both were kinda boring....), so that Luke and Leia could be born...in turn saving the Galaxy
So Binks is still clumsy: makes it possible to both form the Empire and then to destroy it again :D

"PA PA PA PA PPARAPPAPPARAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Yeah, i think EP II is great... especially when you see Yoda fighting... the only main gripe really are the kinda forced romance scenes...
-
I just realized that Ani has really bad luck with females...
First his mom dies here, and we know that in the next one that amadalia is going to die...poor ani...I would turn to the dark side if my mom and gf got knocked off...
-
Well I don't have a girlfriend right now ( and I never had) but I wouldn't turn into a bad guy if something bad happened to me.

It's supposed to be a meaningful father/son thing ;)

That bad huh?:p

Sighs with the look of someone who doesn't want to admit it...
Yeah...

Its a pretty good idea to do that.

Might be something to do with genetics. Looks like Leia is a deffect or something since she didn't loose anything.

Except to Han. But that wasn't in any of the movies...;);7

Nah. Throw him in the Death Star 2 reactor core instead.

I find it VERY weird for a large ship NOT to cast a shadow. It defies the laws of physics. I still like the original Trilogy better. :D
