Title: BGM suggestion thread
Post by: Spoon on June 12, 2011, 02:09:16 pm
Occasionally you guys suggest tracks but they get lost in all the threads.
So let's organize all those suggestions into one thread.

I won't promise I will use any of it but in the very least I will listen and consider every suggestion.

I'd suggest Blackhole's "Walk with Rain" album: http://www.blackspherestudios.com/profiles/Blackhole/Music/Walk_With_Rain/
Especially "Hypergiant" sounds anime-ish to me.
Also, "Freeman" and "Heir to Space" from Tekkaman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uDbiDV62kg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwwE-yYkh1c
Tekkaman has a lot of awesome music, so I'll most likely post more suggestions in the future.

Gundam 00 Final Mission - Quantum Burst (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0pfo7obtuc), especially the part starging at 5:05.

Hmm...Zest Seven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQLUXVa5CwE) for perhaps, boss entry or fights, a final stand, who knows.

Koutetsu no Beowulf for player entry! Uhh...Trajanus Sakusen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TSnvc8qVFg) for a prelude-ish scene, or post-something very bad happened.

Hakugin no Datenshi (Unless you call it Silver Fallen Angel or Platinum Lucifer...) for silly/light-hearted events, or something. Nothing wrong with some Excellen! "Weiss-chan, cho-bunshin!" (http://i728.photobucket.com/albums/ww286/TSADestiny/RampageGhost.jpg)

I'm stuck on either Ace of Aces (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsSjvKOdL8M) or Haruka Sora no Kanata Made (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFvafngk54k), but Ace of Aces is longer, so I'll suggest the Ace of Aces.

Wendolo's The Judge and the Judged (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6qu61NY87A) sounds pretty evil/bad guy-ish or for a dire situation, or betrayal, no idea.

Shippu! Neppu! Cybuster! would sound really odd in WoD2, I reckon.

Flight stuff.

Ace Combat Zero Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6gdyiLZxJ8), simply to get that out of the way. Pretty sure you can find a higher-quality recording in a few seconds.

Area 88's We Know What You Did (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDO0OXcdrNI), Awakening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chOB85Ndg8k), Spread Your Wings, which sadly has a lot of lyrics but would have gone beautifully with parts of WoD1 anyways I think (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXS3NminhBw), and Temptation (I can get you quality of this stuff if you need it, it's not easily to get ahold of)

Magical Girl Stuff

Ignoring Nanoha OP/EDs because they have lyrics, and frankly the EDs annoyed me most of the time. Ignoring Brave Phoenix, Take A Shot, Pray, because they have lyrics.

Raising Heart, Set Up! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hLJSnTLeS8) can probably be sliced up for allied arrival sounds and or possibly whole for briefing music.
Raikou Shuurai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-ivWc5O7Bs) chopped up for enemy arrival music or used whole for general Bad Things Are Happening
Subaru's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6XsnJHLQfA) could be used directly for battle music, and probably other things.
Teana's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkHSyd60rFE), main menu, tech room, briefing?
The Athra's theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEP-DIheMiI), briefing, main menu, tech room?

More when I can be bothered to go through my A's/original soundtracks in detail

I second Final Mission - Quantum Burst, that Norbert suggested. I believe there is some potential for it.

Here's one suggestion of mine for some battle music. It be 'Invasion' from one of the 'Bleach OSTs'. I believe its in one of the later seasons, maybe Fake Karakura Town. It feels like the sort of battle which has really begun escalating toward terrible depths and you know that everything is about to hit the fan. Link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKV6lx9crAs

Here's another one I found at random. 'Strike' from Gundam 00's OST. I know there's a fair bit of Gundam 00 featured in Wings of Dawn already, but it had a serious and dramatic feel of it seemed to really catch on. Link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqR16FNmQhg

Hope you like! :)

Dive to Emergency (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhhPseV2XlA) from Umineko might fit, as might Death (From Stupefaction) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCiK7XBm0qI)

And if not those, then you might want to look through the rest of the Umineko BGM - some properly awesome stuff in there

If Sailor Moon is the grandmother of magical girls, let's close the circle with some music from a certain other series.

Also from Madoka, there's Magia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYytXVng6Lw)

Sad thing is, if Madoka music actually gets to WoD2, I'll most likely have to go mute.

Going off the previous link, extended and in the Insturmental version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUql4quGy04).
I think it would work.

What about this: Cut the scream off in the beginning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jd-6Qfu_x4) for a massive capital ship battle.

Unless they really are that tight about their properties, as long as Spoon doesn't charge for WoD, he'll be fine.
Title: Re: BGM suggestion thread
Post by: Commander Zane on June 16, 2011, 12:56:24 pm
Unless they are? They are that tight about their content. They go berzerk every ****ing time the Mechwarrior devs make a Mech that looks like Macross's Destroids.

Edit: Then again. Maybe it's because Android Assault is made by another Japanese company, and the designer for the game's ships was also involved with the designs of Macross II: Lovers Again. Whereas Mechwarrior is U.S.

We'll just dismiss my last post as drabble.

They go nuts, and I'd recommend avoiding any of their material. Studio Nue has knee-jerk reactions you find with the RIAA.

However, what about the possibility of Vocaloid? I'm sure the guys at Supercell might have something that could work for WoD.

Are those guys the same idiots that are blocking a translation of Macross Frontier because it would contradict the Robotech series?
Title: Re: BGM suggestion thread
Post by: Commander Zane on June 16, 2011, 05:21:38 pm
I don't think anything in Macross (Not Robotech) gets translated unless it's a fansub.
Title: Re: BGM suggestion thread
Post by: Infected on June 16, 2011, 05:53:28 pm
Actually Harmony Gold, the guys behind the Robotech series and holder of the Macross rights in the USA, are the ones responsible for the constant lawsuits concerning the Unseen designs of Battletech. And most likely also blocking any further Macross releases in the US.

Studio Nue themselves didn't really care about FASA stealing designs from them, the Japanese version of the old Battletech rulebook even got new Mech designs by Studio Nue.

The intro of this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8ADomWwsg4) gave me an instant WoD briefing vibe. Though it would probably need to be remixed a bit, as it is rather short, even for a briefing track. And, well, the whole copyright part etc.

Mecha Shows we haven't mentioned yet!

I'd love to mention other stuff from Nadesico, but the show is so old that I can't find any. So, You Get To Burning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_HgF0kdmqY) or the Remaster of the same (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne1hImfqCQg). Half-assed sung version from one of the WoD devs is also acceptable; this is Nadescio after all.

Disputably Japanese, Battle Stations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVRkfKoxliA).

I'm stumped on the BGM right now though. I would be intruged if Break Blade could ever be made into Freespace in-game music, but I don't think it's likely.

May not fit entirely with the tone, and kinda short, but would make an excellent piece for a moment of desperation or a lull followed by frenzied action.

Oh cool. Came up with another one, if nobody's already using it or nobody minds reusing it. Just Communication, which is the theme music from Gundam Wing. Couldn't find a long enough instrumental that wasn't a remix, but the original that is the opening credits for the show is pretty damn good.

Use this song: http://youtu.be/nRsUj-9eLPE

In fact use the whole damn soundtrack. It's phenomenal.

..... Though I don't really know if it fits WoD's style ;_;

Anything from any Colony Wars game.

But Spoon probably has the whole bgm picked out already.

However, I'd be happy to try and suggest tracks for specific settings Spoon if you want to provide any you might have open. I'd like that.

EDIT: This one is perfect for anything where you have to hold out for five minutes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgbz0dH2CB0

It's funny that it is not used for that purpose in Colony Wars, but it is PERFECT.

A couple of other Colony Wars favourites:

Apart from them not fitting in with the established Wings of Dawn aesthetic?

I don't understand. They're good songs that I think would be good in the game.

Okay, since I apperently overdosed on the sarcasm again, I'll try saying it plain and simple (just like The E already did, though I'll elaborate a bit more):

Those songs do not fit in at all with the current soundtrack and quite frankly I don't think they fit into the whole setting and atmosphere of Wings of Dawn.
WoD is mostly "happy go lucky" with a bit of a darker and mysterious streak at times (which makes the occasional orchestral or choir piece fit in nicely).
But those hard core metal songs invoke very different emotions in me (not to mention nervous twitching).

With this I'm refering only to the metal songs you posted. The Cardassian theme from STO might be a nice addition to WoD.

Mad-Nug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0LmxXU1kY4) or Mobile Armor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhAoSjh4hG8) from Gundam Unicorn Episode 4. May death grant you the peace you never knew in live, Loni-san.
When I hear this, I can see someone desperately trying to protect a large number of civilians from an enemy onslaught, but there are just too many (or too powerfull) hostiles to save everyone. If there ever is a mission like that in WoD2, these songs would be my first choice.
