Title: Civilian Liners Census
Post by: Mobius on June 15, 2011, 04:56:55 am
Hi there, I remember a couple of custom-made civilian liners around (one of them is called Majestic, if I remember correctly), and would like to know how many ships of that kind fans have created. Furthermore, I'd like to know if there are any other custom-made ships that, for some reason, can be easily modified to serve as civilian liners. Thanks in advance. :)

We also have the Splendid (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/GTCVl_Splendid).

I always like the Hippocrates as a "Nebulon B "looking plush cruisy thing.

The new medical ship in the Inferno Upgrade would make a good passenger ship with a retexture.

Just say the medical ship is a converted civie liner in the tech room :)

I don't remember any original ships, but there's always The Babylon Project:

(the green one in the middle is civilian)

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to use TBP assets outside of TBP.

That is a political minefield and depends at least in part on who the asset creator was

A TBP ship in FS would look odd anyway.

In my opinion..if you REALLY, REALLY think about it, in a universe with THOUSANDS of space companies, there are gonna be some designs that defy the imagination even if they are not Military as we always seem to see here. So again, in my opinion, when it comes to Civil spacecraft, expect the unusual.

I have been trying to get more civilian designs into FS for years, so good luck. :p

In the meantime though.... more people design some civvy stuff! Terran and Zod! We need it way more than you think. :)

Here are 2 that I got 95% usable and seeing this thread motivated me to finish them.  Warning neither of them are exactly high detail and both of them only have basic textures

First is the GTFr Dazsbog, a Chronos replacement freighter with 4 twin barrelled turrets, It should be compatible with any FS1 era terran cargo .  It has full LODs but no debris. 13166 polys reported by PCS2 for LOD0

Second is the GTSL StarStreak, a 2500 meter long, unarmed luxury starliner.  Has Debris but no lods, though at 4196 polys I don't think that LODs are needed.  This one was originally created for my own project but pace of development means it will be a while before it sees the light of day otherwise.

Both 7z files contain the appropriate blender and DAE files should anyone want to develop them further, please credit me as the original author if you do so.

I think that Esarai's Emperor with the turrets removed would look the part.

With a bit of retexturing to add more windows, yes it could.

What happened to those designs, headdie? The StarStreak in particular seems interesting.

I remember those and they're cool, especialy the freighter. They just need new mapping/textures.

Well given the recent interest and the forum's resident house cleaning ninja's efficiency I have dug up the original attachments and stuck them on my media fire account.
