Title: Ocarina of Time
Post by: BlueFlames on June 30, 2011, 10:26:37 pm
So Nintendo rereleased it for a new system.

...

For some reason, I don't care.

That could have something to do with it.

Do remember, those of you having to drop $250 on a new system and $50 on a new copy of the game:  Your tears sustain me.

I've still got intact saves on those cartridges.  Score!

I think the Ocarina of Time cartridge uses a battery to store saves, and I think mine must be running out of juice, since it was giving me some weird behavior the last time I played.  I'll probably have to replace it at some point.

Supposedly the 3DS zelda OOT has new features. Supposedly those truth stones give you visions which show you how to continue if you're stuck (e.g.: you see link trying to shoot torches with a fire arrow and fails, showing he must use a different fire skill, thus having to look for Din's fire, a magic spell) and the graphics are upgraded to what the 3DS can handle. I doubt there's new content.

The battery in my NES Legend of Zelda cartridge went flat a while back, and the behavior throughout the process was remarkably sensible....  The first clue was that all three save slots got erased, but starting a new game and saving it was no problem.  For quite a while, in fact, it could support two saves, but upon trying to save anything to the third slot, all three would get erased again.  Some time later, the cartridge could only support one save slot, and attempting to store anything in a second slot would blank them both.  Now it doesn't hold anything, but from what I've heard, replacing backup batteries on NES cartridges is a pretty simple process.  Not sure if it's just as simple for SNES or N64 cartridges, as I haven't really looked into it.

From what I've seen after a quick Google search, it doesn't look like it's any more complicated than with NES cartridges.  You just need a hex-shaped screwdriver to crack the thing open, and one of a few types of similarly-sized batteries.

Back on topic... OoT 3DS includes the Master Quest version, which essentially remakes all of the puzzles in the original Ocarina of Time to be more difficult, with the exception of the water temple (which they supposedly made less tedious in the Master Quest version).

Also, gyroscopic 3D.  :nervous:

a friend told me they gave the water temple even more floors.   :banghead:

Personally, I would be okay with them removing the entire interior, replacing it with a blank room that has chests containing the loot and a giant banner that says "We're Sorry."  :P

Joking aside, I really don't like the idea of them changing the design, at all.  Especially with such a classic.

No no, you don't understand.  The original Ocarina of Time is present, with improved textures and meshes, and gyroscopic 3D.  Master Quest is thrown in as an optional extra.

P.S. I played the Master Quest when it was released for Gamecube as part of a package deal, I think with Wind Waker pre-orders. It's pretty good, and definitely challenging. I don't think I've ever played the original dungeons though. I'll have to get to that.

And apparently the Master Quest is mirrored compared to the old Master Quest.

Now that I haven't heard, but regardless, I'll still be getting this newer version of OoT... when the price goes down.

No way in hell is this worth $50.

I didn't spend 50$ on Metroid Prime Trilogy just to add the (admittedly nice) wii-mote control to 2 of 3 games I already own.  Similarly, I'm not spending 50$ to add slightly remixed dungeons and 3D-look-around to a game I also already own.
[/irritation at Nintendo's habit of reselling old games with minor updates for full-game-release prices]

Also, **** Metroid Prime Trilogy for removing the ability to get the Space Jump Boots immediately after landing on Tallon IV!!!  FUUUCK YOOOOOU!!!
[/huge slam on MPT out of nowhere]

I'm pretty sure that you can only do that in the first (UK?) release.  I distinctly remember being unable to do it with my Player's Choice copy.

Speaking of Player's Choice, remember when they used to drop the price on their games after reaching one-million sales?  Those were the days.  Now, you can wait fifty years, and SSB:B will still cost fifty freaking bucks.

I did, and it was well worth it.  Of course, I didn't yet own Metroid Prime 3, so I was basically getting two bonus games with my purchase.  But still, it was a great investment.

Oh really?  I was under the impression that it was MPT which removed the ability to side-dash while targeting something in mid-air, thus ruining that sequence break.  (Also I just felt compelled to complain about something really silly.)

I agree it's a great deal if you don't already have all three games, I just don't see the control interface upgrade alone being worth my 50 bucks, kind of like the 3ds look and puzzle revamping for OoT.  Maybe when the price goes down...
