Title: Steam Summer Sale is Live
Post by: JGZinv on July 02, 2011, 02:02:28 pm
It's been on already for a couple days, runs through the 10th with new deals every day.

http://store.steampowered.com

Seriously, run not walk and get something while it lasts...

I got Empire At War.

It shall almost certainly be regretted.

I'm wondering if Battlefront 2 is worth it or not... BF 1 was ok as a rental... but when most of your team is made of fail... it's hard to win.

It snagged me for KOTOR, SpaceChem, and Just Cause yesterday.  I'm guessing I won't escape the rest of the week unscathed.  I'm hoping I can scrounge together enough tickets for the stuff I want...unfortunately, getting SpaceChem means I need three more now.

So I've since acquired two or three more games, and I now have more tickets than I know what to do with.  Whee!

Actually, I should go through and make a full accounting of my haul so far, just to see how much damage it's done to me. :D

Deus Ex
Just Cause
Far Cry
KOTOR
SpaceChem
Audiosurf
Left 4 Dead 2

There were a few other daily games that I'd already picked up for dirt cheap in past sales, so it could have been even more than that.  And there are still two days left, too. :p

I do have a question for the folks in here.  I'm going to wind up with at least one, maybe two prizes' worth of tickets by the time Sunday rolls around, and I'm wondering what to cash them in for.  The TF2 and Portal 2 items were what I originally wanted, I picked up the SpaceChem pack because I bought that during the sale, and then I went for Alien Breed 2 because, hey, free game.  There isn't really anything amongst the rest of the prize games that I'm sure I'll buy at any point.  Monday Night Combat looks fun in general (and the freebie prize sounds hilarious), and several of my Steam friends seem to own that Defense Grid game.  I may get the Serious Sam HD releases at some point, but I don't care much about multiplayer skins for that.  Any recommendations?

Depends on if you think the extra price was worth it. I don't think I could have stood getting EaW any other way.

Good to see you guys grabbing Deus Ex and several other good classics. Curious to hear opinions on the older games especially. As for me.. I already own pretty much all these games! There's barely any I didn't have just yet, either on CD/DVD or on Steam.

Keeping an eagle's eye on the sales though. Last year's Christmas sale was a huge haul for me.

So far, not a fan of Deus Ex due to the clunky controls.... still trying to find any sort of groove.

Wings of Prey is very good, although not on sale any more.

Almost the entire X series is on sale http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6330/
They've got some pretty bases that's for sure.

What sort of gameplay does the X series feature, anyway?  The screenshots look pretty, but the descriptions make it sound like the sort of "spend dozens of hours running trade routes!" thing that I'm not much interested in.

Pretty much mongoose, you can sort of shoot pirates and things and some other stuff but it's so very dull..

Pretty pissed off; don't think the Steam version of EaW Gold works with mods.
