Title: Scalemail and Chainmail test
Post by: Ace on May 18, 2002, 08:45:42 pm
Though HLP is for sci-fi, I did do up these tests of a new chainmail and scalemail texture, and I think they look pretty good. (though some would probably just look at the mammaries in the pics :p )

Mine does.

But seriously, those are cool textures..though a bit revealing.

Chainmail would hang more.

It's very heavy so it would be rather difficult to have fit the body like that.

True... it should also have more specularity and the scale mail looks a bit more like leather ;7

But if one doesn't mind about those factors, they look neat

*tries to imagine wearing chainmail or scale that was THAT tight fitting...*

Ohh the chafing!  The CHAFING!

And besides, it wouldn't fit that tight unless it had alot of adjustment straps on the back to pull at various angles.

Not to mention it's missing the padding underneath to help cushoin blunt attacks, keep the rings from pinching anything important, etc...

Why cant anyone accept stuff for what it is, instead of moaning about realism etc etc.

Very nice textures... :yes2::nod::yes:

That's all I mention, they're indeed too tight, but textures are very good, and that's enough.

The textures came out pretty good. It looks like you applied them to an otherwise nude body model, though. Given the way armor hangs on the body, you might want to mold something around the nude frame. Not only will it give a more realistic look, it'll keep the pubescent crowd less to get hormonal about.

textures are good, but do some shader tweaking. bring diffusion down and specularity up.

quite difficult to do, in fact :)
otherwise, people are right, the second one looks more like wool than metal. the first one is neat, anyway.

Mikhael you are right, I was a little lazy and just wanted to test it which is why I didn't put it on it's own model over the character.

The lighting on the second one doesn't make it look as metallic as it actually does, plus I did some softening on the image. But... they are tests afterall :p
