Hi,
I have original FS2 on hard disk (it's not from GOG) and my OS is Debian/squeeze
After reading wiki pages, I compiled YAL (0.3RC2) and fs2_open, so I use' fs2_launcher' with' fs2_open_r' and being happy to be able to play standard campaign :)
However, I wanted to try some mods and as first I installed blueplanet, blueplanet2 and mediavps in FS2 directory. After selecting blueplanet mod from launcher, the game starts with dialog saying something about numerous warnings, then after initial screen when I select 'Continue' button game exits.
In my home directory I checked some log file and here is excerpt:

I'll reply to myself in a hope that maybe someone else could have such problem with standard on-board Intel chip:
After searching Synaptic package manager for 's3tc' and installing (extra) package:
libtxc-dxtn0
S3 Texture Compression (S3TC) library
I was able to to play blueplanet (not enough to comment yet ;) )

Driconf is great utility, thou above library is needed for "software support" when hardware fails
I found earlier this topic: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=76151.0 but it does not contain solution to the problem and Google did not listed that FAQ on topic name query
