Title: Sol: A History Install help
Post by: Asoch on July 15, 2011, 01:32:26 am
I've recently purchased Freespace 2 and have been overwhelmed by the amount of mods out by the community. After going through the Campaigns in the installer i went looking for another and sol a history caught my eye. Anyway I downloaded the upgraded version and followed the instructions and unpacked it into my Freespace folder  and ran it in the INF exe after picking it in the launcher like usual. However when I try to launch get a bunch of error messages as follows:

mv_music-mus.tbm(line 86:

Put this file (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/715517patch.vp) into your \solahistory\ folder.

Put it into your \solahistory\ folder. The folder itself.

Yes, put it into the solahistory folder. There should be no sub folder.

EDIT: Ninja'd

Ok I did that it stopped that particular string of error. However when i start up it gives me a warning message saying that it has foun 108 potential conflicts/erors and then when it goes to the main screen it gives me this

Could not load in main hall mask '2_MainScreen-M'!

(This error most likely means that you are missing required 1024x768 interface art.)
ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 21 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe! <no symbol>

And then attempting to do anything leads to a quit game box. Also within the my solahistory folder I have a sub folder labeled data and then more subfolders within that. I'm using the upgraded version if that would make any difference.

Set your resolution to at least 1024x768, or preferrably to your monitor's native resolution. Happens in the "Video" tab of the Launcher.

I suppose it is possible that S:AH doesn't like the 3.6.12 MediaVPs. Or alternatively it would like MediaVPs, but is looking for them at \freespace2\mediavps\ , while they are actually in \freespace2\mediavps_3612\ . Please provide a log, as described here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359).
Technically it is also possible that S:AH just is a bit buggy and those warnings pop up because 3.6.12 is more nitpicky about everything.

Ive got it set to my native 1920 x 1080. I am doing the log now, do I use the inf debug exe or the regular debug exe?

Both will generate the log; the only difference between regular and INF builds is that INF builds can handle more entries in ship and weapon tables. But all in all, INF builds are trendy so use that.

Ok here is the log. Also I tried both debugs just to check if there would be any difference and the INF debug gave me alot more error messages and didn't get to the main start page like the regular debug. This is the INF log just to be clear.

Code: [Select]
Found root pack 'N:\Download\New Folder\New Folder\Games\FreeSpace2\solahistory\715517patch.vp' with a checksum of 0xb1762d03First off, N:\Download\New Folder\New Folder\Games\FreeSpace2\ is not quite optimal as your FSO installation directory. I'd advise you to just cut and paste it so that it is in N:\FreeSpace2\ .

Code: [Select]
Searching root 'N:\Download\New Folder\New Folder\Games\FreeSpace2\INFR1\' ... 0 filesSecond, S:AH requires Inferno R1 (which is expected to be in \freespace2\INFR1\ ), but you don't have it installed. Please download it. I guess it is available at freespacemods.net at the very least.

Then, unrelated to the problem itself. Disable mipmapping from the Launcher. It doesn't do anything good.

Thank you. I assumed that since the installer already had the inf launcher that it also had the required mods. Ill get it going now. Also I have no idea how mipmapping got enabled. Ill egt working on your suggestions now. Here to no more problems. Thanks again.
