Title: More modeling.
Post by: Ryx on May 19, 2002, 08:32:34 am
Started yesterday evening, and been working on it on - off during the day.

I'm calling it the Mangalor or Magalor-class. Don't know which, just hoping it's not taken.

Poly count's 562 :)

Edit:
I meant to do some extrusions for the aft section (on the bottom half to be specific) but I forgot. :o

It looks great, but a little to similar to the last one? Still - killer design :)

Heh, sounds a lot like 'Maeglamor' class *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* :D

Excellent mesh BTW This thing just keeps getting better all the time

Indeed - but with bigger ships the textures can make all the difference since the intakes are low-poly and it'd look a bit naff in plain black ;)

I've started texturing. :)

I'll post more tomorrow

That ship = TEH ROCK. :D

I like it a lot - it does look a bit like that other ship, but there's nothing wrong with fleet coherency... ;)

As for class - what have you got planned? It looks like a fast cruiser or corvette, though I personally am drawn to the idea of it being a science vessel, explorer or passenger ship. It almost makes me want it to be in Star Wars - going as fast as a Corellian Corvette. :p

Well, at the moment it should be on par with an Orion lenght wise, but that can change. It has a hangar (seen in 1st pic), so a bit larger then a cruiser.

I don't really what it is. A civie ship would be cool, but ultimately I let other people decide.  :p

Hanger!!! Cool dude! :D :D

The top bit of the front looks like it could house an AWACS dome. That's all. :D

hmm... AWACS/Science Corvette?

not the best maps perhaps, but functional.

The mesh itself is good, if a little too similar to the previous one, but the maps need some work. More diversity, mainly.

:yes2::eek2::yes: The model is excellent!

Even the maps are quite good.

Real trickty lighting. Not sure it's good, though.

Try giving it vasudan textures more specifically, sobek types textures.

Post by: Ryx on May 20, 2002, 01:31:26 pm
I will look into giving it one more hull tex, but I'm not promising anything. UV per Face mapping's a pain as it is.

I wonder if making custom maps makes it easier...

Post by: Zeronet on May 20, 2002, 02:39:00 pm
Vasudan textures are bad. Terran rules naturally.

It's the gold mainly - it looks to much like a generic texture before proper textures are applied.

Ok, I'm still not sure about the rear bit.

Oh well

Fire away!

Post by: beatspete on May 22, 2002, 03:28:15 pm
Less brown, more grey.  Brown ain't the prettiest of colours, and is generally used for Vasudans (hecate is an exception(and collosus but that was both)).  Aelous or Diemos coulours would be good.
The lights textures are good though, they give an impression of scale.

Try replacing the gold/brown textures with those of the Deimos, see how it looks then :)

I think he was trying to avoid using the Tcov texture, its used so much, but its a cool texture!

Post by: Wildfire on May 22, 2002, 03:57:07 pm
Since the ship looks pretty advanced give it textures like the Pegasus.  Those blue glow n stuff would look great.

Whatever. Take their suggestions, but I like it the way it is. Then again, I'm not a perfectionist.

[hint] So are you using this mod for anything or are you going to release it to anyone?[/hint]

Yes I'm going to release it. I just want to get the texturing reasonably ok. I think I'll include the untextured model too.

I have alot of textures and i do great texturing for alot of current ships and possible upcoming ships. If you like send me a POF file of the ship with ur orignal textures and let me retexture it, maybe i can put something togeather you might like. if you want it done, email me: [email protected] and the file(s). i would love to texture it. i can only imagine!

Is she going into FS? Will you be doing turrets and subsystems? :)

If that's directed at me, then not very likely. On the other hand, if it (the commment) directed at Deep_Eyes, then I hope so too.

I can't do this stuff yet. Probably not as difficult as I think it is, but for now I'll take any community help I can get.

*patiently waits for tutorials*

You know, have you tried some of the AWACS and Miner textures?  They add a little variety to the deimos textures without being, you know, deimos textures.

I was almost going to say that. :)

And sorry, but I think that with these maps, it's looking better untextured than textured. I think that what the community needs is some good tutorials on creation of new textures... ;)

There was a really good texture tutorial here at X-Wing Alliance Update - In nice easy to follow steps as well :)

I agree. With my current texturing skills I'd rather leave them unmapped, but can't have that now can we.

Get the untextured model (http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52019065/mangalor/mangalornotex.exe).

It's both in .3ds and .cob.

Yeah - for fighters..... it's a lot harder to get a good map for tiling, IMO.

Mmm, but then again the general technique could be the same.

1.
Here is the model with textured as shown previously. Not the latest one, but the one before that. Grab it (http://w1.520.telia.com/~u52019065/mangalor/mangalortexes.exe).

2.
I attempted to make a completely custom tex and map it on and it didn't turn out too bad for the first time.

The tex sucks, I know. Basically, I followed the XWA tex tut. with not-exactly-the-same results texture wise. I only texed the top bit. Ok, not all of it, just a bit. :p

I'll have to play around with it more.

Edit: I suck @ Photoshop
