I do believe I've found a most spectacular source for music: http://ocremix.org/
In short, this is a website with some absoultely spectacular remixes of game music. I've already found several songs suitable for use in my mod, including remixes from a few ancient classics, such as Doom and Quake.

The Super Mario World remixes there are totally awesome :D

The Answer is funtastic. A bit too fun for my modding tastes but hey... "The Deep-Sea Fish Loves You Forever."

Ah, OC Remix. Good stuff there.
I highly recommend The Wingless (http://ocremix.org/artist/4420/the-wingless/remixes) for some of the best stuff I had heard on the site, back when I was browsing it a lot; though it was quite a while ago and there's probably tons more by now.
Also, the guy working on the music for Shadows of Lylat (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8392) is on ocremix as well. DZComposer (http://ocremix.org/artist/4684/dzcomposer/remixes)

I thought everybody knew about this place.

Our music guy Justin "Nutritious" does things for OCRemix as well...

Oh...dang.
Well, I just recently discovered it. Too bad I didn't know it earlier, I suppose.

newgrounds.com is good too.

And in case you missed the other thread about it, http://www.jamendo.com/en/ has piles of royalty-free music.
