No more than 4 textures kthx. If you do that, I shall be so happy. Oh so happy.

I like it, very solid rebuild. I do think a couple of edges could be beveled, ala

just a minor nitpick, really. I do think it'd look fairly good on it though.

Using truespace just means that somebody else will have to fix the model's smoothing once he's done.

This.
And thats the best case scenario.

I hope that this might got to the Blue Planet as de-mothballed light destroyer, UEF really need something more than 3 Solaris to push GTVA out of Sol.

Ok then.

**** YOU AND YOUR BEVELS.

It's absolutely fine the way it is. Rounding it out doesn't fit with the rest of the design. At all.

Are these MP turrets going to be Mass Drivers?

Also, where is the third engine?
Title: Re: WIP, Vexor rebuild

Small request texture-wise: Would it be possible to make sure that no two parts of the ship are mapped to the same part of the texture (except for repeating geometry like turrets and mirroring of course) so that AO can be baked properly?
Title: Re: WIP, Vexor rebuild
Post by: --Steve-O-- on August 01, 2011, 11:44:28 am
the turrets will be a mass driver type weapon indeed. I'm even brewing up some new effects and sounds for it.

the third engine was removed so i can get a clean look at the hull and connecting braces. just forgot to pop it back in for the screenie

" Would it be possible to make sure that no two parts of the ship are mapped to the same part of the texture "
I'll do what i can, i won't  make any promises though. some parts are already repeat mapped, such as the flank skirts edging, and the midships skirt. if i have surplus map space then I'll give them their own map space, but for now I'm trying to stretch out me free map space as much as possible.

progress! made some renders to prove it.
texturing is still wip but hell, this ones my best yet. i think its worthy of some renders. and the glows... gonna try to capture the effect with the glow maps. here's hoping

2 x 2048 maps used
poly count: unknown            shouldn't be bad at all though.

Demand... shadows... in... the engine... NAO! Damn, why does it always has to be so complicated :sigh:

The models created for the SCP are so superior to every comparable modifications I've seen.

Stevey baby, love the upgrade. No doubt it'll make an appearance in BP at some point. Question, . . . What do you UV map with?

heh, i still use Lithunwrap.
OHHHH!!! been meaning to ask, what do i need to do to correct truspace's smoothing issues? i dont like the idea of inadvertently pawning it off on others to correct. you know its kinda like selling a car without a paintjob, or no tires.
Title: Re: WIP, Vexor rebuild (image heavy)
Post by: Droid803 on August 14, 2011, 11:00:01 pm
Well you could always get converted to POF, go back to DAE, import it into blender or max, then fix the smoothing, then export back to DAE, then just load all the POF data you made in TS in PCS2 via Global Import.

That would require the least modification to your existing workflow (and works entirely as an extra step you do at the end).

another update.
general hull mapping is done. i still have to "bolt" down some floating parts, add a little more detail and tweek the maps some more, but thus far heres what i've got.
-map usage-
2x 2048 hull maps ----no tiles
1x 2048 or 1024 lo res map for ALL turrets
1x 2048 for hanger interiors. this one will be governed by detail boxes, its there when needed, gone when not needed.

4 maps total, 3 when the detail boxes kick in

Use a proper 3D program like blender? you might also want to take a look at C4D, its to what i went from tS, its actually an easier adjustment than any other 3D app. Also, tell me, did you abuse the lovely lovely crappy booleans of truespace?

Also, wireframe or bust :p
